The following contains major spoilers for The Infernal Hulk #2, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

There is only one hope for stopping Marvel's Infernal Hulk, and he might not even realize who he is meant to be.

After being caught in the middle of a brutal encounter between the ancient Ngathil the God-Eater and the titular behemoth of The Infernal Hulk #2 (by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Nic Klein, Kev Walker, Matthew Wilson, and VC's Cory Petit), Namor comes to the shocking realization that this Hulk is not the Avenger he once knew. Worse still, the one person capable of containing the Hulk seems to have no clue that he can, and if he does, there is no chance that "David" will ever admit it.

The official solicit synopsis for The Infernal Hulk #2 from Marvel Comics reads, "RULE ALL MONSTERS! The INFERNAL HULK's conquest of Earth has begun! Hulk turns his eye to ATLANTIS, where an ancient evil has slept for eons awaiting the call of the Mother of Horrors..."

"But will NGATHIIL THE ENDLESS be content to serve Hulk, rather than rule Earth in his mother's place? Meanwhile, Earth's Mightiest Heroes frantically scour the Earth for the only one who MIGHT hold the key to victory! Where — if he's even still alive — is Bruce Banner?"

Despite decades of being inextricably tied to one another, Bruce Banner and the Hulk currently exist as two completely separate entities. This came about as a result of the ancient, malevolent being known as the Endless finally sinking her hooks into the Hulk and claiming the classic Marvel Comics hero as her latest living vessel.

Although the Endless initially set out to free her mother, the even more ancient and impossibly powerful Vinruviel, aka the Mother of Horrors, this proved to be a tragically fruitless endeavor. Upon freeing the Mother of Horrors from the prison she was thrust into by the One Below All, the Endless found a mere husk of Vinruviel's former self, leading the latter to slay her progenitor and claim all the latent power still resting within.

Since then, the Endless has piloted the Hulk towards reuniting with all of her demonic brethren and reclaiming control of the world in the name of monsters everywhere. Ahead of the release of the series' first issue, writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson discussed what fans can expect from The Infernal Hulk, noting that "I've been promising Hulk fans the biggest, boldest status quo change in Hulk's history, and that time is finally here... Infernal Hulk is the beginning of a terrifying new normal, not just for the Hulk series but for the entire Marvel Universe."
