The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, held Sept. 14, had no shortage of star power, but only one actress could take home the trophy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series, and that Cristin Milioti from The Penguin. Milioti was a breakout star in HBO'sThe Penguin, playing fan-favorite Sofia Falcone.
Milioti's Emmy for The Penguin marks her first-ever Emmy after her first-ever Emmy nomination. She previously won a 2025 Critics' Choice award for the role in the show that boasts a 95% Rotten Tomatoes critic score. Milioti was up against Cate Blanchett, for Disclaimer, Meaghann Fahy for Sirens, Rashida Jones for Black Mirror , and Michelle Williams for Dying for Sex.
Last year, Jessica Gunning took home her first-ever Emmy Award in the same category for Netflix’s hit limited dark comedy/drama series Baby Reindeer.
Milioti, in a previous interview, said she would love to reprise her role of Sofia Falcone for The Batman Part II. Specifically, Milioti said she would love to share the screen with Zoe Kravitz's Selina Kyle/Catwoman. "I would love that," she said. "I love her, and I think we could get into some real sh*t. I don't know how else to say it! I think we would have a great time," she added about a potential The Batman Part 2 team-up.
Will The Penguin Return for a Second Season?

The Penguin was a huge hit for HBO, with Colin Farrell starring as the titular "Oz Cobb"/Penguin in the series. The Penguin was nominated for 24 Emmy Awards. Created by Lauren LeFranc, the series follows up on the events of the 2022 blockbuster The Batman, which starred Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader.
In a previous interview, Farrell talked about whether there may be a Penguin Season 2, saying he had "no idea." Per Deadline, the actor said regarding the show's fate, part of him wants The Batman spinoff to be done after just one season. “I have no idea if it’s happening," he said. "I know that I heard rumblings that they were thinking they’d like to do a second season, but I don’t know if it’s a good idea. I don’t know the way you go back to the trough... And part of me wants to go, ‘Just let it go people. We got away with it. Leave it as it is.’ "
The Penguin is streaming on HBO Max.
