The new Mary Jane Watson is just the kind of Slayer that the Spider-Verse needs.
"Count Parker" by Jordan Morris, Sumit Kumar, and Dee Cunniffe brings readers to a whole new vision of the Marvel Universe, one caught somewhere in a version of the '80s replete with glitz, glam, and vampires galore. There and then, a lone slayer sets out to drive a stake through the heart of the dreaded Count Parker, whose experiments with a vampiric spider imbued him with impossible powers beyond what most supernatural fiends possess. Fortunately, none of that is of any concern to Mary Jane Van Helsing, nor are the hordes of the undead standing in her way.

Despite appearing in a brief cameo over a year prior, it wasn't until 1966's Amazing Spider-Man #42 when Mary Jane Watson made her full Marvel Comics debut. Originally, Mary Jane was the latest in a long line of romantic interests who Peter was pushed towards pursuing, though the pair wouldn't hit things off until well after her introduction. In fact, it was the death of Peter's first true love, Gwen Stacy, that not only helped Mary Jane come into her own as a character, but helped cement the budding relationship between her and the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
In the years since, Mary Jane has been at the heart of some of the biggest and most controversial Spider-Man stories of all time. She has also embarked upon her own career as a superhero, operating under the moniker of Jackpot beginning with Celeste Bronfman and Alba Glez's breakout story from 2023's Amazing Spider-Man #31. During Mary Jane's time trapped in an alternate reality ravaged by the villainous Benjamin Rabin, she met and fell in love with Paul, who helped her develop technology that, through the use of arcane symbols, is able to imbue Jackpot with all manner of semi-random superpowers.
