Growing up in rural Iowa as a reluctant reader, it all changed when he started reading the original Fantastic Four by Lee/Kirby. Now Austin can't stop reading. He has written about comics for Comic Book Yeti and he has also written tons of indie comics, best known for Big Guns Stupid Rednecks.
Apocalypse returns in August, and he has recruited Jubilee as his newest disciple. In Tomb of Apocalypse #1, Apocalypse enlists her help to track down a Celestial artifact, with Wolverine coming along for the ride as these fan-favorite X-Men team up again.
From writer Ashley Allen and artist Domenico Carbone, this five-issue limited series follows Apocalypse as he recruits Wolverine and Jubilee to retrieve a Celestial artifact from his tomb in Egypt. Their mission sends them deep into a nightmare-like underground maze filled with puzzles, traps, and other deadly hazards.
Jubilee’s mutant powers activate the device, transporting her and Wolverine to a remote desert outpost that is revealed to be Apocalypse’s tomb, currently being excavated by armed men. The pair enter the tomb to uncover what is really going on, only to discover they are not alone when they encounter their friends, Rictor and Shatterstar.
Apocalypse Is Just as Dangerous as His Name Sounds

Activated by her mutant powers, the device sends both Jubilee and Wolverine across the world to a desert outpost in Egypt being excavated by armed mercenaries – the Tomb of Apocalypse! As they descend deep into the earth to uncover what Apocalypse has planned for humanity, mutantkind, Earth, and Arakko, they’ll discover they’re not alone, as they cross paths with long-time allies Rictor and Shatterstar.”
Whenever Apocalypse appears, damage, disaster, and destruction are sure to follow. One of the first mutants, Apocalypse, emerged over 5,000 years ago. Since debuting in 1985, he has remained one of the most powerful characters in the entire Marvel Universe. His philosophy of “survival of the fittest” has led to numerous battles with the X-Men, many of which nearly resulted in the catastrophic Age of Apocalypse.
The massive Age of Apocalypse crossover event showcased an alternate reality in which Apocalypse ruled without mercy. This timeline presented drastically different versions of fan-favorite mutants. Wolverine was missing a hand, while Magneto led a group of freedom fighters to that universe’s version of the X-Men. The universe has been revisited many times since its creation, giving fans an even deeper look at a horrifying version of what could have been. The original Age of Apocalypse event has since been collected into a single omnibus edition by Marvel Comics.
Jubilee is often portrayed as one of the younger members of the X-Men, frequently finding herself in situations where she needs rescuing. She possesses the ability to generate and control powerful energy blasts, making her dangerous on her own. Eager to prove herself, the question remains: will she rise to the occasion, or will this mission ultimately lead to her downfall? Wolverine is also an interesting choice to confront Apocalypse. Although the two are very different, they share several key similarities. Both are incredibly difficult to kill and have lived extraordinarily long lives.
Tomb of Apocalypse #1 will be available in August 2026 wherever comics are sold.
