Dark Horse Comics and Dungeons & Dragons are collaborating once more, offering fans an exciting new story that puts an exciting twist on the tabletop game's adventures. It is set to hit comic book shops this July.

Dungeons & Dragons: Total Party Killers will be a four-part miniseries by writer Christopher Hastings (The Unbelievable Gwenpool), with art by Red Hood/Arsenal's Denis Medri. The series will feature colors by Stranger Things' Dan Jackson and letters by Absolute Green Lantern's Lucas Gattoni. It marks Dark Horse's second Dungeons & Dragons series after the publisher acquired the license from Wizards of the Coast.

New Dungeons & Dragons Adventure Teases a New Twist on the Party

Details about Dungeons & Dragons: Total Party Killers reveal an unexpected twist when it comes to the story's party, with it being primarily made up of many of the game's monsters, including a werewolf, a death knight, and even a gelatinous cube, which can hilariously be seen on the cover art for the first issue.

"The wizard Custos has died, and his lair lies ripe for the taking! As adventurers raid the lair for treasure, the monsters enthralled by Custos in life must protect his domain even after his death," Dark Horse's solicit teases, "That is, unless the creatures can trick someone into releasing them! Thus, a lycanthrope, gelatinous cube, mind flayer, death knight, and baby beholder form their own adventuring party to win their freedom in a hostile world!

Dungeons & Dragons: Total Party Killers #1 is set to be released on July 22, 2026, and will feature cover art by Elizabeth Beals, Matias Bergara, Michael Walsh, and Lukas Ketner. A blank character sheet cover will also be available, perfect for D&D players looking to add their own artistic flair and characters to the debut issue.

While Total Party Killers won't be making its debut until July, Dungeons & Dragons fans still have plenty of comic book stories to look forward to in the coming months. Dark Horse's first D&D collaboration, Dungeons & Dragons: The Fallbacks, is set to conclude with its fourth issue on May 20. The series was written by Marvel's Greg Pak with art by Wilton Santos and stars characters from Jaleigh Johnson's 2024 novel, The Fallbacks: Bound for Ruin.

In July 2024, Dark Horse announced it had teamed up with Wizards of the Coast for a new publishing program, just in time to celebrate Dungeons & Dragons' 50th anniversary. It marks a long-running collaboration between the two companies, with Dark Horse first teaming up with Wizards of the Coast for Magic: The Gathering tie-in comics in the late 90s.

"This collaboration is akin to forging a legendary magical item! Dark Horse is just so awesome at bringing fantastical worlds to life on the page," Jess Lanzillo, vice president of franchise and product for Dungeons & Dragons said at the time. "With D&D's vast, imaginative realms and 50 years of thrilling adventure as their canvas, I'm excited to see what will unfold. This collaboration feels like the start of something truly special."

Dungeons & Dragons: Total Party Killers #1 goes on sale July 22, 2026, from Dark Horse Comics.

The cover for the D&D 2024 Player's Handbook depicts characters of various classes and races with weapons out and magic at the ready while dragons of different sizes surround them.
