Thor #11-12 (2008-2009)

These issues continue to do an excellent job just showing all the various Asgardians doing their thing.  Balder learning how to lead.  Loki (now She-Loki) scheming and manipulating.  The Warriors Three having competitions and reveling in chaos. But the common thread is grief.

The center of  issue #11 is Thor learning about the death of Captain America, and mourning his friend by talking to his “ghost”. It is really Cap’s ghost?  Probably not.

Just as Thor deals with death in #11, Loki visits his daughter Hela in #12.  Hela is living in Las Vegas.  She takes her father on a trip through his own history and over the course of the issue we get confirmation that the body occupied by Loki is the mortal version of Sif.

Anyway, don’t mistake the brevity of this write up in any way: This is one of the best Thor comics ever and also one of the best Marvel series of its time.  No issue should be skipped.

Next issue, Thor resumes its legacy numbering (#600) for a 100-page celebration of the character. So I guess this is the “last issue” of this series, but it’s really not.
