Tigress Island Is The Perfect, Bloody Replacement For Kill Bill And Grindhouse

Patrik Walker is an Emmy Award–winning writer who covers all things Comics & Superheroes. His work can also be found at the Dallas Cowboys, The Sporting News, and CBS Sports, among other outlets. One of the most respected names in his field, he is also a diehard enthusiast of all things comics, anime, gaming and movies — thriving in spaces where discussions involving those or similar topics reign supreme.

The thing about the Kill Bill franchise is this: it's absolute cinema. The other thing is that it's far more, unbeknownst to some, because it's also, and often, motivated page turners in the comic book realm. The recent release of Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair — a nearly five-hour bloodfest that hit theaters on Dec. 5, 2025, with added goodies for the franchise-faithful — reinserted the greatness of Quentin Tarantino's masterpiece into the minds of many.

And thanks to Image Comics, that wave of adoration has found its way to the panels of a rage-filled project named Tigress Island, orchestrated by the hands of Patrick Kindlon (Frontiersman, Gehenna: Naked Aggression, Stinger) and, in conjunction with artwork by the beautifully visceral EPHK (Harpy, The Seasons, Napalm Lullaby). It's a five-issue trip into a "fever dream" that pulls no punches, literally, and leaves no holds barred when it lands like a sword to the chest in March 2026.

The story follows a crew of starlets, beyond their prime, having been kidnapped and taken to, let's just say an unsavory, hellacious jungle environment to be held captive under the rule of a female warden who possesses nothing short of demonically-bad intent for them. Their shackles are only the beginning of what they must break free from, and likely the easiest of all the obstacles that dare them to attempt an escape, so banding together will be their only option — betrayals lurking — or die as individuals while the others watch.

"This one is for every reader who isn't getting enough flavor in their weekly comics haul. From concept to characters to execution, Tigress Island is unapologetic fun. High craft. Lowbrow. Awesome." - Patrick Kindlon, Image Comics

Kill Bill, Grindhouse Inspired Tigress Island

One look at the covers gives a bone-chilling glimpse into the darkness that awaits readers of Tigress Island. As mentioned, the project readily delivers on the same branch of femme-fueled violence that made Uma Thurman (The Bride), Vivica Fox (Vernita Green), Lucy Liu (O-Ren Ishii), Darryl Hannah (Elle Driver), Chiaki Kuriyama (Gogo Yubari) and Julie Dreyfus (Sofie Fatale) legendary in Tarantino's Kill Bill series, a franchise that also, like Tigress Island, unapologetically leaned into the energy of 1990s filmmaking.

"We set out to capture the soul of 80s and 90s sexploitation 'straight-to-video' movie classics and somehow ended up with so much more. No one is ready for this!" - EPHK, Image Comics

Lastly, those familiar with the greatness of Grindhouse — another classic blood-drenched cinematic project from Tarantino, but based on exploitation films of the 1970s — will also find a play with Tigress Island, needless to say, and that'll do nicely in a current space where neither that nor Kill Bill will see another project anytime soon, if ever again. The last hoorah for Kill Bill and Grindhouse have now passed, but Tigress Island will carry the torch, and skin-covered blade, into 2026.
