Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.
Tim Burton once claimed not to be a fan of comic books, which is a curious fact, considering how important the medium has been to his career. The inventive filmmaker brought one of the most influential superheroes to life on the big screen with his 1989 smash hit, Batman, and later infamously attempted to revive the Man of Steel with Nicolas Cage in the iconic role in the ultimately canceled Superman Lives. More recently, he introduced a new take on The Addams Family with a Netflix series that makes Wednesday the focus. On top of that, some of his creations have been adapted for comics, such as the short-lived graphic series adaptation of the animated Beetlejuice TV show and, in the latest case, a continuation of his film, Sleepy Hollow.
From IDW Publishing comes Return to Sleepy Hollow, which expands on the 1999 Johnny Depp-led adaptation of the famous story by Washington Irving about a village terrorized by a headless killer who travels on horseback, collecting the heads of his victims. Burton's Sleepy Hollow is a fun, cult favorite throwback to Gothic costume dramas, and writer Casey Gilly and artist Savanna Mayer's new series captures its essence wonderfully, as evident in this CBR exclusive preview of the comic's second issue, set to hit shelves on Christmas Eve 2025.

- Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow (1999) continues in Return to Sleepy Hollow!
- The Van Tassel mortuary is overflowing with bodies–—residents of Sleepy Hollow who died tangled in roots, decorated in flowers, or blanketed in soil. The constables insist that the deaths are accidents, but Ichabod and Katrina suspect that evil has returned to plague the town.
- As their investigation leads them deeper into the Western Woods, Lotte, Katrina’s daughter, begins an investigation of her own by communing with the spirits of the dead. Screaming to be heard, the lingering souls may hold the answers the living are looking for.
Following the events of Return to Sleepy Hollow #1, which introduced Lotte, the teenage daughter of Ichabod Crane and Katrina Anne Van Tassel, the second issue opens with yet another unsettling discovery of a body in the Western Woods. The victim, this time stumbled upon by local constables Tarvey and Salt, is once again found in an almost decorative fashion, surrounded by flowers and tangled in roots, but with his facial features nearly absent, rendering the poor gentleman unrecognizable. The case brings the estranged Ichabod and Katrina back together, if not only as platonic partners in yet another investigation that will likely prove to challenge all that they understand about the natural world. One thing that is for sure is that, had this been the work of the Headless Horseman, there would have been more than just a face missing from the murder victim.
Curious readers will be able to see where this mystery takes these heroes when Return to Sleepy Hollow #2 is released next month. In the meantime, the first issue of this new series is now on sale.
