Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.
Timothée Chalamet has become one of the biggest names in Hollywood, with two Academy Award nominations (for Call Me By Your Name and A Complete Unknown) under his belt so far. In that regard, it is not too much of a surprise to learn that the 29-year-old cites one of the most critically and commercially successful films in history as his personal favorite.
The Dark Knight was Chalamet's reply when asked about his all-time favorite movie after accepting "White Boy of the Year" at the 1st Annual Believe That Awards (available to watch from NBA player Anthony Edwards' YouTube channel). Calling in via video chat while taking a break from filming Dune: Part Three in Budapest, the actor and basketball fan's full response was the following:
I always say The Dark Knight. That's always going to be my favorite. But, my favorite of the year has been Heat. I saw Heat late, and Heat is a classic.
It is interesting how, right after praising Christopher Nolan's record-breaking Batman movie sequel from 2008, which earned the late Heath Ledger a posthumous Oscar for his beloved portrayal of The Joker. The Dark Knight has earned many comparisons to Michael Mann's 1995 heist drama starring Al Pacino as an LAPD lieutenant chasing an elusive thief played by Robert De Niro, especially for the films' shared stylistic approach to action sequences and other visual similarities.
Chalamet mentioend both Heat and The Dark Knight and Heat in his conversation with Anthony Edwards and the Believe That Awards co-host, Nick Maddox. Chalamet also cites 2001's Training Day, starring Denzel Washington as a corrupt cop mentoring a rookie played by Ethan Hawke, as a major influence on his acting career. Of course, topping his list is a crime drama that also happens to be a comic book movie.
Does Timothée Chalamet Have A Future In Superhero Movies?
Image via Warner Bros.In a 2024 interview with The New York Times, Timothée Chalamet said that his Don't Look Up co-star, Academy Award winner Leonardo DiCaprio (who very nearly could have played Robin in Batman Forever), once warned him against starring in superhero movies. However, he would then add that, since The Dark Knight inspired him to become an actor, he would be open to the idea with the right script and the right director leading the charge.
In other words, it is safe to say that a future with the star of A24's upcoming sports biopic, Marty Supreme, donning a cape in a Marvel or DC movie has some potential. In fact, many comic book lovers have already picked out their choices for what might be the perfect superhero movie role for Chalamet, most of which just happen to originate from Gotham City lore. Viral fan art has depicted him dressed as Robin, who is set to make a long-awaited return to the big screen in the DC Universe, or even Terry McGuinness in a live-action Batman Beyond adaptation.
There are bound to be more big-budget blockbuster releases in Chalamet's career beyond his reprisal of Paul Atreides in Dune: Part Three, which is set to hit theaters on Dec. 18, 2026. Of course, whether they will see him tackle a comic book character role in the vein of his top pick, The Dark Knight, remains to be discovered.
The Dark Knight is streaming on HBO Max.
