“Evil Ed Rising”

Years have passed since the Dandrige slayings rocked the small town of Rancho Corvallis. Now, one of his disciples, “Evil” Ed Thompson, is cursed to walk the Earth alone. With little tutelage on what it means to be a true vampire, he stalks the dark alleyways of the nearby city, driven by an eternal thirst to drain every last drop of blood from his next victim.

The memories of his friends and the man who drove a stake through his heart have become ever-haunting. They are always there, following Ed through the night. Whatever became of Charlie Brewster, Amy Peterson, and the Hollywood phony – Peter Vincent?

Then, in the backrooms of a trendy gentlemen’s club, a dark-haired beauty has captured Evil Ed’s heart. Who is she? Why does Ed feel so attracted to this woman? In the next few hours, the vampire teenager from a small town in Iowa would have more than his heart captured.

Reviewer Notes

Evil Ed is back and crazier than ever! In this August 2024 one-shot, American Mythology Productions brings an interesting continuation of the Fright Night franchise. It’s definitely one you don’t want to miss.

I’m a bit confused by the timeframe in which this story takes place. Ed Thompson was killed in 1985, as writer S.A. Check confirms in the graveyard scene. All the vehicles and technology seem to have been at least developed after the year 2000. But is the story set in the year 2024? I can’t determine.

If this is the case, Charlie Brewster and Amy Peterson would be in their sixties at this point in the timeline. Peter Vincent would, of course, be deceased. I guess the fans will have to wait for the next Fright Night event to drop. For the “Evil Ed Rising” comic book, I thought this was an excellent direction for the series to go in. I don’t want to spoil the story here, so I will just say Jerry Dandrige was not the only Alpha in the world of Fright Night. I give this one-shot four out of five stars.
