The following contains major spoilers for Iron Man #6, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Tony Stark is back to selling weapons, and Doctor Doom is officially his biggest client.

After an explosive encounter with the Winter Guard from which he only narrowly escaped, the titular hero of Iron Man #6 is left rattled by the revelation that there is simply no way to successfully combat Doctor Doom's global regime by ordinary means. Instead of trying to pick apart Doom's empire alongside the Avengers or any of his other allies, Tony is forced to try and take things down from the inside out. To that end, he is also forced to give up on his dream of leaving the weapons industry behind, especially now that Stark Unlimited is Doctor Doom's one and only provider of artillery and ordinance.

While Tony Stark and his various companies have long been associated with weapons manufacturing, the hero himself has spent the past few years trying to completely rewrite that aspect of his legacy. Although is attempt to walk away from it altogether by resigning from the board of Stark Unlimited was an ultimately fruitless and short-lived affair, subsequent storylines saw Iron Man take bolder, often outright brash steps to accomplish the same goal. Among these was buying out the entirety of the black market known as Source Control, which very nearly bankrupted the hero.

Unfortunately for the superpowered business magnate, such endeavors have been undercut at multiple turns thanks to a series of hostile takeovers of Stark Unlimited since his return to the company. During Orchis' reign, it was Fei Long who took control of Stark Unlimited, which he used to craft an entire army of Stark Sentinels and other mutant hunting technology. More recently, Stark Unlimited was the subject of a nearly-successful takeover on the combined parts of A.I.M., Roxxon, and the demon Belasco, with the latter's presence in the plot being the cause of its ultimate undoing.

The Avengers have finally discovered exactly how far Doctor Doom's latest plan goes, and they are already too late to do anything about it.

Even though reclaiming control of his corporate empire gave Tony the chance to keep his resources from falling into the wrong hands, it also left him saddled with the legacy of one of his worst enemies. During the course of the attempted takeover, Justine Hammer, better known as the Iron Monger, was seated within the board of Stark Unlimited. From that position, Justine was able to sign numerous contracts built upon the Iron Monger name, effectively forcing Iron Man back into the weapons industry despite all his previous efforts.
