Alex Consani, a man who identifies as female, is set to appear as a Victoria’s Secret angel in a 2025 runway show, and none of my feminist friends is speaking up about this.
Consani shared his excitement on Instagram, posting behind-the-scenes photos from a recent Victoria’s Secret photoshoot. Among the images was a package labeled a “tuck kit,” used to hide genital features. This marks Consani’s second time walking the lingerie brand’s runway. Last year, he became one of the first transgender models to be featured in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, alongside fellow trans model Valentina Sampaio.
In addition to Victoria’s Secret, Consani has walked for high-profile designers like Chanel and Stella McCartney. He made history by becoming the first transgender nominee and winner of Model of the Year at the 2024 Fashion Awards in London. “I’m the first trans woman to win this award,” Consani said while accepting the honor, drawing applause from the crowd. He also acknowledged the black transgender women who fought to create space for people like him, saying, “But I can’t accept this award without thinking of those that came before me, and specifically the black trans women that really fought for this space that I’m in tonight.”
Consani credited his parents for supporting his modeling ambitions from a young age. He told them at 12 that he wanted to pursue modeling and praised their support, adding, “And that’s something that I think a lot of other parents of trans children should follow.”
Consani gained fame on TikTok, where he has more than six million followers. After signing with IMG Models in 2019, he made his runway debut for Tom Ford in 2021. The Model of the Year award is determined by a panel of industry experts combined with a public vote, recognizing those who have had a major impact on the modeling industry over the past year.
In 2023, black transgender model Kai-Isaiah Jamal was also nominated for Model of the Year. However, plus-size model Paloma Elsesser took home the award. Despite the growing acceptance and prominence of transgender models in fashion, many remain disappointed that “woke” ideology continues to force these changes in widely viewed cultural events like the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
