Per a press release from Skybound Entertainment, 2026 will mark one of the most hotly anticipated team-ups of the decade when G.I. Joe #19 arrives in comic book stores everywhere. The issue, written by Joshua Williamson and illustrated by Andrea Milana with colors by Lee Loughridge and letters by Rus Wooton, will kick off a whole new story, all while bringing together Optimus Prime and the G.I. Joe's own Duke for the very first time. Readers can check out the cover galleries for both G.I. Joe #19 and #20 down below.

The official solicit synopsis for G.I. Joe #19 from Skybound Entertainment reads, "Duke and Optimus Prime meeting for the first time in the Energon Universe? What's led to this momentous meeting of the EU's two greatest heroes? All we can say is it involves Clutch, Autobot Hound, and America's most wanted man – Matt Trakker! "

Debuting in 1983, First Sergeant Conrad S. Hauser, aka Duke, is one of the most iconic characters from the classic G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero lineup. Duke has been a key part of numerous iterations of the G.I. Joe series, including both the original animated series and the G.I. Joe: Sigma 6 series from 2005, hundreds of comic books, and countless other pieces of tie-in media and merchandise. Hollywood fan-favorite Channing Tatum even stepped into the character for both the 2009 live-action film G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and its 2013 sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

Skybound Entertainment's Energon Universe has been bringing together characters from multiple iconic pop culture franchises for years. The line began with the publication of Robert Kirkman and Lorenzo De Felici's Void Rivals #1 back in 2023, which opened the door for a whole host of heroes and villains to make their way into the Energon Universe. While the wider Energon Universe has been largely dominated by the goings-on of the Autobots and Decepticons, factions such as the G.I. Joe and Cobra have wasted no time in making their own presences known.

Earlier this year, the Energon Universe underwent one of its biggest shakeups yet in the pages of Transformers #25 (by Robert Kirkman, Jorge Corona, Dan Mora, Mike Spicer, and Rus Wooton). The issue kicked off a whole new storyline as the Autobots and their fearless leader Optimus Prime were forced to join forces with some truly unlikely allies to save the world that has become their home. Picking up in the wake of a brutal, sprawling battle between the Autobots and Decepticons, Transformers #25 set the stage for what is sure to be months, if not years, of stories yet to come.
