The Umbrella Academy Season 4

The Umbrella Academy will make its return to comics with a brand-new story. Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá return for a new series with Dark Horse releasing this summer.

Dark Horse officially announced The Umbrella Academy: Plan B, a new work picking up directly after the events of Hotel Oblivion. Way and Bá co-wrote the new story, with Bá providing artwork. The publisher revealed the synopsis for Plan B, which stars new characters known as The Sparrows. A slew of cover art and variants for the first issue were also teased. The Umbrella Academy: Plan B #1 goes on sale June 11 and will be a six-part series.

Gerard Ways Calls Umbrella Academy a "Special Part" of His Life

Adding a new chapter to The Umbrella Academy's rich comics' story was exciting for both of the series' writers. "Telling this story with Gabriel would become, as it is today, such a special part of my life," said Way. "This is not only because we would evolve as artists -- but because we had the opportunity to grow up over a pretty crazy adventure together. Each chapter of this story seems to form and coalesce into its own organism -- sometimes as a screaming baby on a subway car, other times a bird kicked out of its nest -- and it’s because of this I am just as excited for Plan B as I was when we went on this trip together with Apocalypse Suite."

Bá echoed Ways' sentiments and had high praise for the new limited series. "I haven't felt this excited about our story since the early days of Apocalypse Suite. This is Umbrella Academy at its finest."

The Umbrella Academy's comic books were initially released in 2007 by Dark Horse Comics. Since their inception, three volumes have been published and two spin-offs. Back in 2020, Way teased 'Sparrow Academy' as the fourth arc in the series, following Apocalypse Suite, Dallas, and Hotel Oblivion. The success of the series spawned a Netflix television show starring Elliot Page, which ran for four seasons from 2019 to 2024.
