These motherfuckers are acting REAL surly, considering they’re facing down
1. A demiurge master of Ki Rata
2. The greatest swordmaster in the universe
3. The goddam Heir

I’m very much getting the impression that these fellows are a sacrificial offering on the part of Incubus, getting them out of the way in a way that doesn’t hurt him a single lick. He seems the sort that would have plans to immediately take and field their assets seconds after someone else takes their heads. This is all sorts of “now pull the other one”.

Interesting to me how much Incubus and his actions bring to mind another figure from the mythology of an as-yet-unopened world.
In particular, Loki as he appears in the older tales. A shitkicker, a jokester, fun but fickle, dashing but dangerous. Someone best viewed from afar, if at all.
And for heavens’ sake, don’t trust him for a second.

I feel that Number 1 is important for the solution of this conflict. She does not fit into this lot. She cared about Mammon and her people. And she did not seem too happy to be with those other antagonists in the first place.

To describe Ciocie Cioelle’s departure as a “slithering” displays the sphinx’s utter disdain for her. A snake, the lowest of the low. He will not regret this disdain, as those who follow the wheel-turning king know only the bliss of their little orders in the midst of pandemonium until they are either obliterated or their lord succeeds.
