The following contains major spoilers for Wolverine #11, on sale July 23 from Marvel Comics.

Wolverine is staring down his worst enemy all over again, and this time he's fighting for the family he didn't even know he still had.

In a preview for Wolverine #11 from Marvel Comics, readers can find the titular hero standing face-to-face with none other than Victor Creed, better known as Sabretooth. While Logan had believed that Sabretooth's life had finally come to an end with their last confrontation, it is now clear that isn't the case. Worse still, Wolverine's own mother, Elizabeth Howlett, is caught in the middle, meaning that this is one fight that Wolverine simply cannot afford to lose.

Logan's mother, Elizabeth Howlett (formerly Hudson), made her debut back in the pages of 2001's Wolverine: Origin by Paul Jenkins, Bill Jemas, Joe Quesada, and Andy Kubert. The classic series gave readers their first glimpse into the life of the man who would become Wolverine long before he ever became the unstoppable mutant antihero fans know and love today. Tragically, the third issue of Wolverine: Origin showcased Elizabeth's apparent death at her own hands, which rocked Logan's entire world to its core and has haunted him for years since he rediscovered those painful memories.

While there have been plenty of minor revelations and discoveries made about the Howlett family in the years since Wolverine: Origin, none of them ever pointed towards Elizabeth somehow still being alive. It wasn't until the oversized Wolverine #8 (#400 by Marvel Comics' legacy numbering system) that her return was teased whatsoever. Over the past few months, Wolverine has tirelessly searched for his mother, all because of a letter he received that was obviously written by her own hand rather than any sort of would-be impostor.

Marvel Introducing New Avengers Team, With Major Changes

Marvel Comics is bringing a new team of Avengers front-and-center in the Age of Revelation, although they might not be the heroes the world needs.

Despite making his debut in the pages of 1977's Iron Fist #14 by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, the villainous Sabretooth has long been intrinsically tied to Wolverine. In their decades-long history together, Logan and Victor have fought side-by-side and against one another all the same, although it is their deep-seated hatred for one another that has come to define their relationship.

Back in 2024's Wolverine #50 by Benjamin Percy, Victor LaValle, Geoff Shaw, and Cory Smith, it seemed as though Sabretooth's luck had finally run out, with the villain's life coming to an apparent end thanks to Wolverine's Adamantium-laced claws and the fabled Muramasa Blade. How Sabretooth returned remains to be seen, yet there is no doubt that it will only spell more sorrow for Logan and everyone else in his orbit.
