The following contains major spoilers for Wonder Woman #18, on sale now from DC Comics.

The most important battle of Wonder Woman's entire comic book career is just around the corner.

After months of facing off against every single threat that her enemies have to throw at her, Wonder Woman #18 finds the titular hero finally ready to confront the villain who has been pulling each and every string from the shadows. Upon reaching the grounds of the White House, Wonder Woman is met with fierce resistance ranging from Sgt. Steel to Apokolips' very own Grail, yet none of the opposition she faces is enough to hold her back. As such, it is only a matter of time before Diana has made her way into the White House, all for one final confrontation with the Sovereign.

The dark, twisted warrior known as Grail made her comic book debut in the pages of 2015's Justice League #40 by Geoff Johns, Kevin Maguire, Phil Jimenez, Dan Jurgens, Jerry Ordway, Scott Kolins, Jason Fabok, and Jim Lee. Born to the Amazon assassin Myrina, who had a secret tryst with the malevolent Darkseid, Grail and her mother were the first Amazons to leave Themyscira, having escaped in the hopes of avoiding any tragedies brought about by the dark prophecies surrounding Grail's birth. In the following decades, Grail grew into a devastating, near-unstoppable warrior, one capable of standing alongside the Anti-Monitor and against the likes of the Justice League.

Grail, Sgt. Steel, and a myriad of other villains have become indelible part of the overarching plot crafted and carried out by Henry Charles, better known as the Sovereign. Hailing from a long line of secret monarchs who have reigned over the United States from the shadows, the Sovereign is among the most resourceful and relentless villains that Wonder Woman has ever faced. In the past year, the Sovereign has unleashed nearly every possible threat he can upon Wonder Woman, though none of them have been able to keep her down for very long.

Wonder Woman’s Most Iconic Weapon Has a Whole New Purpose (And It’s Incredible)

DC's Absolute Wonder Woman has finally revealed the latest take on the character's most iconic weapon, and it is stronger than ever before.

Among these various assaults against Wonder Woman have been a series of battles against her worst enemies, including Cheetah, who has proven to be more of an unlikely ally than anything else. Wonder Woman was even captured and confined for months by the Sovereign and his forces, though this was hardly enough to crush her spirits. In a moment of absolute desperation, the Sovereign ordered the murder of Wonder Woman's beloved Steve Trevor which, while certainly an act that had a profound impact on Diana herself, only cemented the fury she is now prepared to unleash upon the Sovereign and his forces.
