X-Men #200-204 (2007): Blinded by the Light

18 hours ago 3

A group of X-Men are working for Mister Sinister as a new Marauders team, and acting at his direction they are murdering mutants who have precognitive ability or who know about alternate timelines.

Cable is the most notable death but, of course, he’s not really dead.

Blindfold dies, too.  Only she doesn’t.  Neither does Rogue, but she does get shot.

Mystique is one of the mutants who betrays her own team, and even shoots her own daughter, Rogue.  There’s a lot of Rogue-focus in this story.  She’s still catatonic after absorbing the memories of an entire galaxy of slain aliens.

In addition, Sinister’s Acolytes are also working at his direction.  So, lots of characters involved in this story.  It’s crowded, and Humberto Ramos’ ridiculously stylized art doesn’t do the tale any favors.

Along with Endangered Species and The Extremists, this story is really just seeding the big “Messiah Complex” event that will crossover many of the X-Men family of books.  It’s largely about establishing who is on what side of the battle, and suggesting that Mystique may be a triple agent, betraying the X-Men as part of a master plan to betray Sinister.

Note: Most of these issues are “half stories,” sharing story space with chapters of the Endangered Species story, which is covered in its own post
