The Krakoa Era of X-Men comics energized readers for its freshly bold ideas around mutant sovereignty. However, the events of Fall of the House of X saw everything come crashing down and resulted in Charles Xavier doing some questionable things to save mutantkind. Since then, he has been locked up for his crimes.

From the Ashes, the current X-Men era, has seen the various X-Men teams scattered around the country. However, they’ll cross paths when Charles Xavier escapes his bespoke prison cell and is on the run with a mysterious goal in mind.

The hunt for Charles Xavier will all unfold in the X-Manhunt crossover. Make sure you don’t miss an issue with this handy reading order. It features everything you need to know to start reading this X-Men event from the list of issues, background reading, and heaps more.

How to read X-Manhunt

Crossovers can be confusing when so many different titles are involved – especially when multiple chapters are published on the same day. However, there’s some method to this madness. X-Manhunt has a prescribed reading order which sees the story move from one title to another. You’ll get a full story if you read each chapter in the correct order.

In total, there are seven chapters and one tie-in. This tie-in, Exceptional X-Men #7, is referred to as “Collateral Damage“, which is just a fancy way to say that the contents feel the effects of X-Manhunt but do not specifically build on the story in the same way as the core chapters.

Still confused? Head down to the X-Manhunt reading order section to see how these comics relate to each other.

Background reading

The current X-Men line (From the Ashes) has been running since mid-2024. As a result, there’s plenty to read if you want to go back and do some background reading. This is perfect for anyone who wants to better understand what’s going on with the X-Men in this current era and the different character dynamics.

However, it’s also worth noting that the comics themselves will help get you up to speed with the recap page at the start of each comic and through how the story is told.

Those who want to do the reading should check out the following comics.

As mentioned, the recap pages and contextual clues within the X-Manhunt-related issues should give you enough details.
