Event Horizon: Dark Descent artist Christian Ward explains how Andor inspired the series and when fans can expect that scene from the film to appear.
Speaking to ScreenRant, Ward responded to a question regarding where the idea to bend the original film's narrative via the prequel series came from, explaining that "For me, watching Andor was the final piece of the puzzle when I was putting together what this series would be. It's all about giving great context with the view of greater emotional or psychological complexity."

"My goal was that I wanted to write a story that would change how one might view the film," Ward continued. "As far as where this all came from, it's wholly original, but obviously inspired from watching the film. I avoided researching early drafts as I wanted to feel like it's my story to tell. That said, the one element of fan service that is in the series is the infamous 'blood orgy' sequence that was cut from the film. You'll have to pick up Issue #4 to see how we're using that, though. That issue will make you cry and recoil in equal measure."
Event Horizon: Dark Descent kicked off in August and offered readers the long-awaited opportunity to return to the world of the eponymous Event Horizon spacecraft. Set before the events of the instantly iconic (and infamous) 1997 film, Event Horizon: Dark Descent follows Doctor G. "Billy" Weir (originally portrayed by Sam Neill) both during his initial journey on the ship he constructed to test its experimental gravity drive and during his personal journey to come to terms with the death of his beloved wife. More importantly, Event Horizon: Dark Descent provides greater insight into the infernal forces working from beyond the veil of our reality to turn the Event Horizon into a gateway to darker and more destructive forces than anyone has ever seen.
In the original film, a small team is sent to investigate a distress signal sent by the Event Horizon, which had disappeared seven years prior during its maiden voyage. Not long after arriving on the desolate ship, the rescue team discovers signs of an outright massacre, which quickly gives way to abject horror and levels of brutality that they never could have anticipated. During a key sequence, audiences are given a glimpse of what happened to the original crew of the Event Horizon, which is colloquially known as the "blood orgy" scene. Despite only being seen in brief flashes, this scene lives on in infamy and was originally far more intense than what ended up in theaters due to the utter disgust expressed by many test audiences before Event Horizon's theatrical release. Unfortunately, most of these scenes were lost after they were cut, making the upcoming prequel the only place that those terrifying scenes might finally be seen by long-time fans.
Event Horizon: Dark Descent #4 is expected to arrive in stores this December from IDW Publishing.
