Marvel Comics' original King in Black is about to make an unexpected comeback, and his return will spell nothing but doom for the Marvel Universe.
Per a press release from Marvel Comics, writers Al Ewing and Tom Waltz and artist Juanan Ramirez are set to bring the original King in Black back in his very own solo series for the very fiorst time. Slated for a January 2026 release, Knull #1 will see the god of the symbiotes emerge once more to embark upon a whole new reign of terror. Of course, that will be easier said than done, even despite all the power Knull wields now that he has to wrest his mantle as the King in Black back from the surprising figure who currently holds it. Readers can check out the main cover art for Knull #1 by co-creator Ryan Stegman down below.

- RETURN OF THE KING!
- Weakened from his last death, trapped by the enemy he never expected, the God of the Void waits in a cage once again. His captors think Knull has nothing to fight back with -- but in Knull's hands, nothing is a weapon. And there's a greater weapon out there, waiting for the King in Black to take it... and take his revenge.
Knull co-writer Tom Waltz opened up about being brought onto the series, noting that "When super-editor Jordan White reached out to me to see if I'd be interested in collaborating with fellow writer Al Ewing on the new Knull series, I couldn't jump at the chance fast enough." Waltz continued, "Besides working alongside Al, who is an absolutely fantastic and steady talent, the kicker for me was getting to play with such an amazing character with such untapped potential as Knull. The King in Black has once again risen up out of the void to cause delicious havoc and mayhem across the universe, and we've got surprises a'plenty in store, my friends. And just wait until everyone sees Juanan Ramirez's darkly bombastic artwork -- WOW!"
Artist Juanan Ramirez added, "Drawing the God of Symbiote hits hard right from page one. Tom and Al are totally to blame for how much fun I'm having working on this. I hope readers are ready to dive into something absolutely WILD!"
Though his name had been uttered in hushed tones for months before his first full appearance, it wasn't until 2018's Venom #3 by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman that the ancient God of the Void known as Knull revealed his true self to readers. For untold eons, Knull drifted peacefully through the nothingness that came before life in the Marvel Universe, up until the day that the Celestials and their Light of Creation cut through the primordial void that was his utopia.
In response, Knull reached into his newly formed shadow and pulled out the very first symbiote, All-Black, with which he decapitated one Celestial before embarking upon a crusade against any and all who would disrupt his perfect void. Eventually, Knull was imprisoned by the very same symbiotes he created, only for the King in Black to be set free in the modern day. While Eddie Brock was ultimately successful in destroying Knull and usurping his mantle as the King in Black, the upcoming solo series proves that the end he met so many years ago wasn't nearly as permanent as readers were previously led to believe.
Knull #1 goes on sale in January 2026 from Marvel Comics.
