A fan-favorite DC Comics character just proved exactly how strong love can be — even on the battlefield.
Justice League Unlimited #1 finds the members of the eponymous team racing against the clock to shut down a series of mechanized monstrosities and quell the damage they have done. Unfortunately, there are several civilians who are on the verge of losing their lives, including Aadan Nkosi. Luckily, Carol Ferris is sure she can set things right, so long as she can find Aadan's wife, Amahle, and use her own powers as the Star Sapphire to turn the couple's love into a healing force beyond all others.

Originally introduced all the way back in John Broome and Gil Kane's story, "Green Lantern: Secret of the Flaming Spear" from the pages of 1959's Showcase #59, Carol Ferris is the best known of any character to wield the mantle of Star Sapphire, even if she wasn't the first. As the heir to the Ferris Aircraft Company, Carol was always bound to cross paths with Hal Jordan, better known as the Green Lantern. This quickly kicked off a fiery romance, all while further putting Carol into a position where she could come into superpowers of her own before long.
After being chosen by the alien warriors known as Zamarons to wield the power of the ancient Star Sapphire Gem, Carol took up the appropriate mantle and embarked upon a career she never would have imagined for herself. In the years since, she has played the roles of both an enemy and ally to the Green Lantern. Though the romance between Carol and Hal has long been a defining feature of both of them as characters, their respective ideals and goals as their superpowered alter-egos have frequently put them at odds with one another.

Absolute Batman Just Reintroduced the Dark Knight’s Worst Enemies
DC has reintroduced Batman's most iconic enemies, and his Absolute rogues are far from anything that fans would expect from Gotham's worst villains.
The current iteration of Carol Ferris has far less experience than her more storied predecessors, yet she has continued to prove herself a capable hero in her own right. During the battle against Amanda Waller's forces during the events of DC Comics' Absolute Power event, Carol decided to join in the fight alongside Hal, ultimately leaving behind her fiancée, Allen Broome, in order to do so. This unleashed a preternatural wave of grief and agony from within Allen, one which was so potent it ushered in his transformation into the Emotional Spectrum's newest representative - Sorrow.
