A Retro Marvel Icon Joins Mary Jane as a Brand-New Symbiote Host

20 hours ago 2

Marvel shocked the comic book world by having Mary Jane Watson revealed as the all-new Venom, but the company then made a lot of fans happy in the most recent issue of the series, where Mary Jane finally decided to break up with her live-in boyfriend, Paul Rabin, a character that had drawn a good deal of concentrated hatred from comic book fandom since he was introduced three years ago. However, there's a lot more going on in the series than just Mary Jane's romantic problems, as Rick Jones and Flash Thompson helped a pair of symbiotes escape from captivity in a based operated by S.C.A.R. (an anti-symbiote agency). In a CBR exclusive preview of next week's All-New Venom #10, see how Mary Jane deals with the immediate after-effects of her breakup, and also see who might be the new host of the Toxin symbiote!

All-New Venom #10 is from writer Al Ewing, artist Carlos Gómez, colorist Frank D'Armata, and letterer Clayton Cowles, and it follows Flash (who is known as Agent: Anti-Venom, as he has bonded with an artificially-created symbiote that is poisonous to other symbiotes) and Rick deciding what to do with the two symbiotes, Sleeper and Toxin, that they just helped escspe (Flash forces his Anti-Venom symbiote into his body, and then temporarily bonded with Toxin to become Agent Toxin).

VENOM VS. MARY JANE WATSON!

After the events of last issue, MJ’s life is upside down… and there’s one symbiote to blame! It’s the argument of the century as the world’s strangest roommates air all their dirty laundry…but when the last word is said, will any relationship be left standing?

In the preview pages, Rick Jones is freaking out, because he was the only person who was unmasked during the battle with S.C.A.R. (Flash Thompson, since he was wearing the Toxin symbiote, could still claim that he isn't working with the symbiotes, and is still loyal to S.C.A.R. as Agent Anti-Venom, as S.C.A.R. knows that Anti-Venom is, well, you know, anti-Venom). Flash explains that the truth here helps Rick, as he literally WAS mind-controlled by the Sleeper symbiote for weeks, forced to serve as a "Sleeper agent" by bonding with the symbiote without him knowing it, and then having his memory erased after every mission. Flash argues that Rick was a victim, and then S.C.A.R. tried to dissect his brain, so he could just threaten to write about that in the Daily Bugle (Rick is the current superhero beat writer for the Bugle).

Toxin is forced to separate from Flash as Flash's Anti-Venom symbiote is returning (Flash could only suprress it for so long). Toxin is starving, and he really needs a new host, and Rick has to decide whether he's willing to bond with it to save its life.

Finally, in the direct aftermath of Mary Jane breaking up with Paul, Paul is shocked, but, at the same time, he can't come up with a good reason why they SHOULDN'T break up. The preview ends there, though, so you'll have to pick up a copy of All-New Venom #10 next week to see how Mary Jane and Paul's discussion goes, and see whether Rick becomes the new Toxin or not!
