Oni Press is preparing to say goodbye to Rick and Morty with its new hit series, Rick and Morty: The End. We just shared the solicitation for the final issue of that series, but as we say goodbye to Rick and Morty, we're also saying hello to the latest volume of Rick and Morty: The Manga.

The second volume of Rick and Morty: The Manga is out this week, and Oni is allowing CBR to share an exclusive preview of the volume, titled Rick and Morty: The Manga Vol.2: After-School Science Club, by writer Josh Tierney (World Piece, Iris Complex) and artist JeyOdin (Rick and Morty: The Manga Vol. 1: Get in the Robot, Morty!; Hammer)

What is the solicitation for this Rick and Morty manga volume 2?

When Morty falls in love at first sight with the new exchange student from Japan—Chigusa—and she shows him her favorite manga about after-school clubs, he knows just the advisor for his hastily constructed new Science Club: Rick Sanchez. With his ragtag group of teen losers (plus Chigusa) and a cursory knowledge of Japanese school clubs he picked up from skimming Morty’s manga, Rick leads the club in a competition against the preexisting, sanctioned, totally normal Science Club, creating a portal to Akihabara, nexus of anime and manga culture, and famous home of Tokyo’s maid cafés. Brimming with inspiration from their trip (and chased out of the country by the maids who have turned on Rick) the Science Club prepares for their school festival with a maid café of their own making—a science maid café selling questionable concoctions.

What do the creators of Rick and Morty: The Manga have to say about this volume?

In an Oni press release, Josh Tierney noted, “Dark, absurdist humor is a core part of my being, and I've been collecting manga since I was 8, so when I was asked to write this book, I couldn't believe how perfect an opportunity it was. Plus, it was a great excuse to watch Rick and Morty episodes over and over again while working on it (I can still hear their voices echoing in the recesses of my brain). If you're a Rick and Morty fan who is deep into manga, I wrote this for you. And for me. Let's get lost in Akiba together.”

JeyOdin added, “Volume 2! Although not a direct sequel to the previous story line I drew, it was a very fun project to work on. I've been drawing manga professionally since I was 19, and being the artist who gets to draw the Rick and Morty Manga has been a great honor. This volume truly has it all, humor, action, and even mystery in some points. Get ready to visit Akihabara, the mecca of anime and manga and how an obsession with Maid Cafes can create more chaos than you could ever imagine.”
