Iconic Events and Lionsgate are teaming up to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Battle Royale, the groundbreaking Japanese action-thriller from director Kinji Fukasaku, with a special 4K theatrical-cut screening across North America this October.

The restored version will screen on October 12–13 and 15 in Japanese with English subtitles, bringing the cult classic back to the big screen in stunning clarity. Tickets are available now through Iconic Events.

Originally released in 2000, Battle Royale follows a class of Japanese high school students forced by the government into a deadly survival game, where they must kill each other until only one remains. Known for its blend of sharp social commentary and shocking violence, the film has left a lasting influence on modern dystopian media—inspiring countless books, movies, TV shows, and video games.

In addition to the screenings, audiences will also be treated to a rare bonus feature: Kinji Fukasaku: A Master At Work. This exclusive interview with screenwriter Kenta Fukasaku, son of the late director, offers insight into the real-life events that shaped his father’s final film, from wartime experiences in a Japanese munitions factory to the protest movements and youth crime wave of the 1970s. The interview will be presented in Japanese with English subtitles.
