The following contains major spoilers for Detective Comics #1091, on sale now from DC Comics.
Batman has a whole new edge over the competition, and there is no telling how long it will last.
Detective Comics #1091 finds Batman still on the hunt for Gotham City's latest serial killer, who has been targeting young criminals without regard for their individual circumstances. Although the Dark Knight has been feeling the effects of years of fighting coupled with his ever-increasing age, he has a new ace up his sleeve that is turning all of that around in record time. Thanks to the efforts of his old friend Scarlett Martha Scott and her latest breakthrough in medical science, Bruce Wayne and a select few others are feeling the years wash away from them, and it is only making Batman stronger.

Scarlett Martha Scott made her first appearance only recently in the pages of Detective Comics #1090. As a child, Scarlett spent much of her time in one of the Wayne shelters founded by Bruce's mother, Martha, in order to help the victims of abuse. Bruce previously noted that Scarlett was among the last people who his mother had the chance to help directly before his parents were gunned down by Joe Chill.
The story of Joe Chill himself has been expanded along with Scarlett's introduction to the DC Universe, specifically in a way that might shed new light on the deaths of Thomas and Martha Wayne. Years prior, Chill was one of the victims of a brutal car crash. While his pregnant wife was left mostly unharmed, the fact that she bore bruises from previous beatings at the hands of her husband drew the attention of Martha Wayne, who helped the young woman escape her tragic circumstances along with her child. At the same time, Joe Chill was operated on by Thomas, who repaired much of the damage the crash had done without ever questioning whether the man was worth his help.

Absolute Batman Just Reintroduced the Dark Knight’s Worst Enemies
DC has reintroduced Batman's most iconic enemies, and his Absolute rogues are far from anything that fans would expect from Gotham's worst villains.
Scarlett Martha Scott's new medical technology is far from the first time that Batman has encountered a substance capable of turning back his biological clock. In 1972's Batman #243 by Denis O'Neil and Neal Adams, Batman uncovered the fabled Lazarus Pits for the very first time. These ancient pools of restorative chemicals are a naturally occurring phenomenon, and have long been utilized by the likes of Ra's al Ghul. While the Lazarus Pits are indeed a restorative experience for those who immerse themselves in their murky green waters, they also impart a dangerous, often deranged mental state on any who use them, at least in the immediate aftermath of their effects.
