Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?! Volumes 10 and 11

It’s been a while since Adachi has actually been a wizard. He and his boyfriend Kurosawa have settled into a relationship, and as he’s no longer a virgin… Anyway, as you can gather from the cover, Cherry Magic! volume 10 is the wedding!

There are a variety of viewpoints leading up to the big event. Coworkers ask the two men about their partners, as both have started wearing rings, although the colleagues assume each has a girlfriend.

We see the two struggle with wedding planning — including the cost and the location, particularly given that they’re a gay couple. They’re having trouble finding a place to live for the same reason, but a pep talk by Kurosawa’s sister keeps them optimistic. The co-worker who ships them helps out with some of their planning as well.

Visually, I sometimes had trouble telling the characters apart, as they all have the same face, but most of the story can be followed through the text. There’s also a sex scene between the two, reminding us of their attraction for each other, and requiring the “parental advisory” cover warning. With all the family encounters and other tasks, it’s great to see the two of them together. The actual ceremony is sparsely portrayed, but romantic nonetheless.

In volume 11, we similarly get a variety of views of one subject, this time seeing the two as newlyweds at work, at home, and planning for their future together.

Also, now that the main couple has their happy ending, we see more of Adachi’s friend Tsuge, a writer who’s also a wizard for the same reason, and his younger boyfriend. Tsuge is concerned about how their relationship isn’t progressing, so the two couples go on a double date.

First, though, Tsuge needs help figuring out what to wear, and Kurosawa makes them a picnic! I loved the side note, after hearing all about what he’s making and how, that said, “I think the manga’s switched genres.”

As with the original couple, these two are sweet in their confusion and uncertainty, which has me rooting for them. The double date gives them each someone to talk with, and the communication helps. That’s always the case here, with the message that people need to talk honestly to each other in order to win through.

Finally, the newlyweds get a honeymoon, going on a trip together. It’s lovely to see, romantic to imagine, and sexy as well.
