Chris Pratt's Post Regarding Charlie Kirk Is Receiving Heated Backlash

1 day ago 4

Chris Pratt, known for his role as Star-Lord/Peter Quill in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, is facing major backlash after a recent post to social media. Following the Sept. 10 shooting of right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk, Pratt took to X to express his feelings on the matter and offer his sympathy.

Kirk, who founded the Turning Point USA organization, was shot and killed on Sept. 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University in front of a crowd of 3,000 people. The same day, Pratt, via X, posted this: “Praying for Charlie Kirk right now, for his wife and young children, for our country. We need God’s grace. God help us.”

As of Sept. 12, per The Hollywood Reporter, 22-year-old Utah resident Tyler Robinson, a suspect in the shooting death of Kirk, is now in custody.

In just two days, Pratt’s social media post received more than 7,000 comments, with many people criticizing the MCU star’s words. X user @Dav3Shanahan commented on Pratt’s post with a gif of the actor from Parks and Recreation, and captioned it, “Great post, good to know you liked him so much. I will continue to boycott everything you’re in.” Another X account, @wandasattorney, posted, “Praying for you to get f*****g fired from Marvel.” The post has 57,000 likes on X.

X user @AxelTalksFilm posted, “Hey Chris! Would you have tweeted prayers up for the 3 shot in Colorado today, as well?” The user was referring to the Colorado high school shooting that happened the same day that Kirk was killed.

Another account, @PeachVirgo1, replied to Pratt’s post with information about the deaths of Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark Hortman, who were shot and killed in their Minnesota home in June 2025. The post, which has more than 7,900 likes on X, reads: “Her and her husband were assassinated in their own homes in June. Everyone was awfully quiet. But when the extremely racist guy who said black women shouldn’t vote, said gay and trans should be executed in front of children so they learn at a young age, and that if his daughter was raped she would have to keep the baby; apparently somehow deserves our great nations tears and respect. We see what you are lol.”

The Fan Backlash Continued Following Pratt’s Super Mario Bros. Sequel Announcement

The backlash following Pratt’s X post comes just as the title of his new Super Mario Bros. movie was revealed. On Sept. 12, Illumination confirmed that the sequel to 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set to be titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The movie is being distributed by Universal Pictures and is set to be released on April 3, 2026. Pratt will be reprising his role as the voice of the titular Mario in the sequel.

The announcement of the Super Mario Galaxy Movie also prompted a response from some of Pratt’s X followers. X user @TariRob30170722 said, replying to the movie’s announcement, “Bad timing, dude, bad timing.” One X user simply replied to the Mario announcement, writing: "Dedicated to Charlie Kirk."

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hits theaters on April 3, 2026.
