Batman's brand-new ongoing series from writer Matt Fraction, artist Jorge Jiménez, colorist Tomeu Morey, and letterer Clayton Cowles has gone over extremely well for DC. CBR reviewed the first issue, and praised how well the new creative team launched the series, which is set within the current DC Unvierse (and actually continued a number of plots from the previous run on the book by Chip Zdarsky and Jorge Jiménez), noting “The whole issue really sings. This is a great start to the new run.” CBR isn't alone, of course, as a number of other comic book sites have given Batman #1 glowing reviews, as well.
Now, though, DC is revealing that the strong positive reaction to the new series has also translated into the first issue completely selling out at the distribution level! DC has now announced that it will be going back to print on Batman #1 for a new second printing, and there will be a variety of new covers for the release.
What are the new covers for the second printing of Batman #1?
The main cover for the second printing will be a recolored Batman logo on Jorge Jiménez's original cover for the first issue. In addition, though, Jorge Jiménez is also contributing a brand-new card stock variant cover for the new printing, featuring a brooding Batman, sitting with his costume damaged from a fight.
In addition, superstar artist Dan Mora is also contributing two cardstock variant covers. One of them is a brand-new image of Batman with his rogues gallery intermixed into his body, and the other is a foil variant cover of that same striking image.
What does Batman artist Jorge Jiménez have to say about the new printing?
The news was actually first announced by Jorge Jiménez himself on his social media. He got to celebrate the news by announcing, "BATMAN #1 IS OFFICIALLY SOLD OUT!, and DC is doing a second printing!! I can't believe this flew by so fast, these weeks have been truly crazy, honestly thank you all so much! I´ll never forget your support for this series!!!"
Jiménez, of course, has had a long association with Batman, as he was one of the regular artists on the title during James Tynion IV's award-winning run on the series, as well, and, of course, as noted above, he was the regular artist on Zdarsky's acclaimed run, as well. Jiménez, like Dan Mora, has been a mainstay at DC over the last decade, drawing runs on a number of titles like Superman, Earth 2: Society, Earth 2: World's End, Justice League, and Super Sons.
Batman #2 just had its final order-cut off next week, and Batman #1's second printing will have ITS final order cut off date this Monday, so you can tell your local retailer that you want to preorder it now.
Batman #1 second printing will be released in stores on October 15th.
