Growing up in rural Iowa as a reluctant reader, it all changed when he started reading the original Fantastic Four by Lee/Kirby. Now Austin can't stop reading. He has written about comics for Comic Book Yeti and he has also written tons of indie comics, best known for Big Guns Stupid Rednecks.

The Blue Lantern Corps has dozens of members, but it will be getting a new member this October. In Supergirl: Survive #3, DC Comics confirms that Supergirl is revealed to be a member of the Blue Lantern Corps.

Supergirl: Survive is a new Elseworlds tale that rewrites the origin of both Supergirl's and Superman's origins. The series follows a teenage Kara Zor-El who is traveling through the cosmos with a baby, who is Kal-El, after the destruction of Krypton. The duo encounters loads of adversity as they travel through space, which leads Kara to join the Blue Lantern Corps.

The official solicitation from DC Comics gives us even more information: "MEMORIES OF KRYPTON! After their run-in with the Lantern Corps, Kara has taken Kal back to Krypton... but the real Krypton no longer exists. This one is of her own making. A shimmering city of blue constructs that shelters them from the pain of their loss. Kara could call it home and keep her cousin safe... but she'd be living a lie. Fortunately, the arrival of an interdimensional imp will help change her mind."

Supergirl is a Fantastic Addition to the Lantern Corps

Supergirl: Survive is by the creative team of writers Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan (Blink and You'll Miss It) and artist Rod Reis (New Mutants). Each different Lanter Corps is powered by a different emotion. Green is powered by willpower, red is powered by rage, and blue is powered by hope. Hope is often associated with Superman-related characters, making Kara a fantastic addition to the Blue Lantern Corps.

While the new Supergirl film underperformed at the box office, this cosmic Elseworlds tale might have the things fans were looking for that they didn't find in the movie. DC had probably hoped the new movie would send viewers to comic shops seeking out new Supergirl comics. In fact, in some theaters, viewers were given a free Supergirl comic.

The Blue Lantern Corps has had several notable characters since its inception. The likes of Barry Allen (The Flash), Saint Walker, Brother Warth, Ganthet, and Sayd have all been members of the corps. The Blue Rings have several special powers which set them apart from other colored rings, such as the ability to charge green rings to over 200%, drain the power of yellow rings, and several healing abilities, like being able to regenerate wounds and damaged cells.

The Blue Lantern Corps first appeared in Green Lantern #25 in 2008. The corps was created by writer Geoff Johns and artist Ethan Van Schiver. Saint Walker was the original member of the Blue Lantern Corps. Saint Walker is a huge advocate for harmony and peace, which easily fits in with the ring being powered by hope.

Barry Allen also held a quick stint as a Blue Lantern. He used the powers of the ring in his battle against an army of undead Black Lanterns being led by Nekron. The longer time goes on, the more it seems like every major DC character will wield a power ring at one point or another.

Supergirl: Survive #3 will be available on Aug. 5. wherever comics are sold.
