19 hours ago 2

DC Studios is preparing a full reset of its superhero universe. After years of uneven success, studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are steering a slate of films and series that will stretch across live-action and animation. Some projects are already filming while others remain in early development, but all of them represent key moves for the next era of DC storytelling.

Here’s what we currently know.

‘Lanterns’

Release Date: TBC 2026

The HBO Max series Lanterns will focus on Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they investigate a disturbing mystery on Earth. Unlike past Green Lantern stories that leaned on cosmic battles, this version is designed as a detective-style thriller. Comparisons have been made to True Detective, suggesting a slower, more psychological approach.

The creative team includes Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Watchmen), and comic writer Tom King, with James Gunn confirming its place in Chapter One of the DC Universe. The cast features Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, and Poorna Jagannathan.

‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’

Release Date: June 26, 2026

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow adapts Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s comic series. This take on Kara Zor-El will depart from earlier screen versions, portraying her as a harder and more isolated figure than Superman. Gunn described her as “much more hardcore.”

Milly Alcock, known from House of the Dragon, plays Supergirl with Craig Gillespie (Cruella, I, Tonya) directing. The script, written by Ana Nogueira, has been praised by Gunn, and the release is scheduled for late June 2026.

‘Clayface’

Release Date: September 11, 2026

Clayface introduces Batman villain Matt Hegen in a horror-themed reimagining. The film will explore his descent from struggling actor to monstrous figure, drawing early comparisons to The Fly and Joker. It is directed by James Watkins (The Woman in Black) with Matt Reeves producing under the Elseworlds banner.

‘The Batman: Part II’

Release Date: October 1, 2027

Robert Pattinson will return in The Batman: Part II. Directed by Matt Reeves, the sequel remains separate from Gunn’s main DCU. While plot details are being kept secret, Barry Keoghan’s Joker, teased in the first film, may feature more heavily. Production has faced delays, but Reeves is still writing and working with Gunn and Safran on development.

‘Dynamic Duo’

Release Date: June 30, 2028

Dynamic Duo is an animated feature that will highlight Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. It will examine their personal conflicts as Dick steps into Nightwing’s role while Jason edges toward becoming Red Hood. Written by Matthew Aldrich (Coco) and directed by Arthur Mintz, it is scheduled for summer 2028 theatrical release. Matt Reeves will produce, though it will not connect to his Batman films.

‘Waller’

Release Date: TBA

Waller will continue the story of Amanda Waller following events of Peacemaker Season 1. After her covert actions were exposed, she works to keep her political control while managing superhuman assets. Viola Davis will return as Waller. Christal Henry (Watchmen) and Jeremy Carver (Doom Patrol) will serve as showrunners.

‘The Authority’

Release Date: TBA

The Authority adapts the WildStorm comic by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch about a team of superhumans who believe the world is broken and needs to be reshaped. The team includes Apollo, Midnighter, the Doctor, and Angela Spica (played by María Gabriela de Faría in Superman 2025). Gunn acknowledged the project is among the hardest to get right, and development has been lengthy.

‘Paradise Lost’

Release Date: TBA

Paradise Lost takes place on Themyscira before Wonder Woman’s birth. It will explore the origins of the Amazons, their rivalries, and the balance of power on the island. Inspired by Phil Jimenez and George Pérez’s work, the show will include intrigue and civil strife within Amazon society. Gunn has described the tone as similar to Game of Thrones but set within DC’s mythology.

‘Wonder Woman’

Release Date: TBA

A new Wonder Woman movie is in active development with writer Ana Nogueira. The feature will reboot the character for Gunn’s DC Universe, separate from Gal Gadot’s version. While casting has not been announced, speculation continues to follow several high-profile actresses. Gunn has identified Wonder Woman as one of the “four pillars” of the DCU along with Superman, Batman, and Supergirl.

‘The Brave and the Bold’

Release Date: TBA

The Brave and the Bold will introduce Damian Wayne as Robin, marking the first live-action adaptation of Batman’s son. The plot centers on Bruce Wayne balancing his role as a father while working with a child trained as an assassin. The film will be directed by Andy Muschietti (The Flash). Gunn confirmed casting will not begin until the script is finalized.
