What Is Event Horizon: Inferno About?

Event Horizon: Inferno kicked off back in April, with the series serving as the long-awaited follow-up to the 1997 cult classic. The sequel series is set approximately 200 years after the events of the movie, which saw Hell itself unleashed upon the crew of the Lewis and Clark, a rescue vessel sent to recover the remnants of the Event Horizon and its experimental gravity drive.
At its outset, Event Horizon: Inferno introduced a new crew commissioned by Daniel Durante, an eccentric billionaire with his sights set on whatever secrets the Event Horizon might hold. To make matters that much worse, Durante already had some amount of knowledge regarding what actually happened aboard the Event Horizon before sending his personal crew into the middle of the horror for themselves, and all to sate his own need for power.
Event Horizon: Inferno is just the latest Event Horizon comic from IDW Publishing following the fan-favorite prequel, Event Horizon: Dark Descent. Released in 2025, Event Horizon: Dark Descent charted the story of Event Horizonand its initial voyage, not to mention the emergence of the infernal forces that would eventually come to possess it.
Writer Christian Ward discussed the overwhelming success of the prequel series before the release of Event Horizon: Inferno, stating, "I have to admit I've even been taken aback by just how big a hit Dark Descent has been, and I'm thrilled now to be continuing the story of Event Horizon in Event Horizon: Inferno! First, we told you the story about what happened before the events of the film, and now... now we’re exploring what happened after the credits rolled."
Event Horizon: Inferno #5 from IDW Publishing goes on sale on Sept. 2.
