Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.

The following article contains spoilers for Absolute Batman #22 in the final paragraph.

The astonishing critical and commercial reception to Absolute Batman has cemented Scott Snyder as one of the most essential writers in the Dark Knight's history. Of course, an important facet of his reputation is his work with artist Greg Capullo.

The author and the illustrator have joined forces on some of the most renowned Batman stories in recent memory, which is why many of their fans have been asking when Capullo will put his stamp on the Absolute Universe's Gotham City. According to Snyder, that moment may not be too far away.

Greg Capullo's Absolute Batman Debut Teased By Scott Snyder

On July 8, 2026, Scott Snyder and other creators behind DC's Absolute Universe hosted a livestream event on the WhatNot app called "Absolute Access Live." The writer took the time to answer fan questions, which led to the latest of many instances in which readers asked about when to expect his frequent collaborator Greg Capullo to lend his talents to Absolute Batman, which he finally had a promising answer for.

"We’re in discussions right now about what's possible going forward. You will see him drawing. I won't say what, like cover or what, but you know, there's nothing to be spoiled or revealed. But I'm very, very excited that he's open to the idea of coming over and doing a bit with us. I don't have a better friend in the world than Greg."

He led into that explanation by recalling another time he and Capullo were asked the same question, which incited a playful argument involving the artist claiming that, despite Snyder's insistence, he never "formally" asked him about working on the mega-popular DC series, which launched in 2024. This led him to formally ask Capullo about drawing something related to the Court of Owls, a sinister secret society the duo created in 2011 that made its Absolute Universe debut in early 2026.

Snyder has previously and publicly expressed interest in Capullo contributing to Absolute Batman in some capacity. More recently, the artist teased the potential of joining the Absolute imprint when he posted multiple photos on social media that appear to be a sketches modeled after Nick Dragotta's Absolute Batman design.

The last comic Snyder and Capullo worked on together was Dark Nights: Death Metal, a conclusion to their "Dark Multiverse Saga" published between 2020 and 2021. However, in 2019, they launched the DC Black Label release of Batman: Last Knight on Earth, which was touted as the grand finale to their esteemed The New 52 run.

Scott Snyder Hinted At Absolute Batman's Future

Greg Capullo's eventual Absolute Batman contribution is not even the biggest story to come out of WhatNot's "Absolute Access Live" event. Scott Snyder dropped a bomb that makes the dark and gritty smash-hit series' future look bright.

When asked how long he intends for Absolute Batman to last, he claimed that he has everything up to Issue #50 planned out. Snyder also insists that this will not mark the end of the series as a whole, but the end of a major storyline in this working-class version of Bruce Wayne's life, taking place over the course of a year.

He more specifically explained how this 50-issue arc, which would likely conclude by late 2028, follows Absolute Batman's evolution into the kind of crimefighter he is destined to be while working to protect Gotham City from the corruption of Jack Grimm. Speaking of, the immortal, demonic aristocrat otherwise known as Absolute Joker was recently revealed to be the orchestrator of Bruce's vigilante evolution, having ordered the murder of his father as part of an experimental effort.

However, the ending of Absolute Batman #22 suggests that Thomas Wayne has actually been held prisoner by Joker and Absolute Scarecrow all this time, unless there is some other manipulative trick behind that bombshell. More likely is the issue's other shocking revelation that Grimm is Absolute Harley Quinn's biological father, which informs her devotion to taking him down.
