The following contains major spoilers for Batman #2, on sale October 1 from DC Comics.
One of the greatest Robins of all time just took a hit that will leave an impact on the entire Batman Family.
In a preview of Batman #2 (by Matt Fraction, Jorge Jiménez, Tomeu Morey, and Clayton Cowles) from DC Comics, readers find Tim Drake, better known as Robin, leaping into action to stop a brazen daytime truck robbery gone wrong. While the Boy Wonder is more than capable of putting a stop to the threat posed by a handful of armed goons, he is anything but ready to be targeted by police officers bearing lethal intent of their own. With one shot, Robin's ascent towards the Gotham City skyline is cut short, and there is no telling how bad of shape he will be in by the time he hits the pavement below.

First seen in a flashback in the pages of 1989's Batman #436 by Marv Wolfman and Pat Broderick, Tim Drake started his career as a Caped Crusader under the mantle of Robin. Rather than being a tragic youngster who just so happened to stumble into the role, Tim chose the mantle of Robin for himself. From a young age, Tim exhibited an extraordinary mind and keen sense of observation, so much so that he deduced the alter-egos of both Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson well before he ever stepped into their lives. After the death of his parents at the hands of the Joker, Tim sought out the Dark Knight and Nightwing for himself, knowing that if he could prove his worth, he would find exactly the opportunity he was so desperately in need of.
In the decades since, Tim Drake has taken on numerous monikers, including Drake and Red Robin, yet has consistently circled back around to his original heroic alter-ego. Tim has also found himself at the center of multiple major DC Comics storylines, most of which paved the way for bigger and better things down the road. Thanks to the countless heroes he has crossed paths with, Tim has amassed a long list of allies, not to mention being added to the rosters of multiple super teams, including the Teen Titans, Batman Incorporated, the Outsiders, and even Justice League Unlimited.
The latest Batman series has been a resounding success for DC Comics, with its first issue headed back for a second printing following an overwhelmingly positive response on the part of fans. Back in June, writer Matt Fraction promised big things to come in the current Batman series, including plenty of entirely new additions to the Dark Knight's overarching mythos. "Jorge and I have a very superhero-forward kind of take on Batman," Fraction said at the time. "We've got a new Batmobile, we've got a new costume, we've got new characters, and we've got a lot of old ones too —good and bad; all the stuff that makes Batman the coolest character in comics. We want to celebrate it all."
