John Dodge has been an avid consumer of comic books and nerd culture for as long as he can remember. An expert on obscure productions from the '80s and '90s, John has too many opinions about Beetleborgs for someone with an active social life.

The following contains major spoilers for the Peacemaker Season 2 episode "Ignorance is Chris," available for streaming now on HBO Max.

Marvel Comics' most famous Wall-Crawler officially exists in the DCU, just not in the way fans might have been hoping for.

As noted by industry and fan account Discussing Film on Twitter, the latest episode of Peacemaker, "Ignorance Is Chris," has officially made Spider-Man a canon part of the DCU. The revelation came during a moment in which Freddie Stroma's Adrian Chase, aka Vigilante, crosses paths with his alternate universe self. Upon realizing that they are indeed the same person, the two Vigilantes recreate the iconic pointing Spider-Man meme, which the pair immediately reference by name, confirming that Spider-Man is still a popular comic book superhero within the DCU.

Season 2 of Peacemaker premiered on Aug. 21 to resounding applause from both critics and audiences. Season 2 brings back not just the core cast of John Cena, Freddie Stroma, and Danielle Brooks, but also interdimensional variants of nearly every character from Season 1. Among the most prominent of these returning characters is Robert Patrick's Auggie Smith, aka White Dragon (now Blue Dragon), a violent white supremacist "superhero" who is hailed as just that in the alternate reality uncovered in Season 2. Unsurprisingly, multiple signs clued viewers in to the idea that there was something terribly wrong with this world early on, only for those suspicions to be confirmed when this alternate reality was revealed to be that of the Nazi-ruled Earth-X.

Peacemaker star Danielle Brooks, who portrays Amanda Waller's daughter Leota Adebayo in the hit series, previously teased the existence of Earth-X while singing high praises of how writer-director and DC Studios co-head James Gunn has developed the DCU's multiverse. "I'm always into different universes and seeing where your life goes if you went past the door, but the way that James [Gunn] has written it is really incredible, like people getting to meet themselves. Unfortunately, I have a lot of FOMO." Brooks said during a recent interview. "I did not get to meet myself, but that's okay."

While speaking to CBR, Peacemaker star Sol Rodriguez, who portrays the cybernetically-enhanced Sasha Bordeaux on the series, promised that the final episodes of Season 2 ramp things up to a degree fans have never seen before. Rodriguez described the final three episodes of Peacemaker Season 2 as "a movie made in three parts," explaining, "It's big, big episodes. Big everything. Everything becomes crazy. Everyone starts to intertwine, and they're very — that's why they're not sending them to you. They're very big episodes. I hope you enjoy them once they come out."

Peacemaker is currently available for streaming on HBO Max.
