Peacemaker Season 2 has dominated the HBO Max charts since it debuted a few weeks ago. The DC character even showed up in Epic Games’ Fortnite as a purchasable character with a dance emote that quickly became popular. But then the emote was removed by Epic Games after some noticed it appeared to form a swastika during the dance.

The “Peaceful Hips” emote, showing John Cena’s DC character doing a dance with arms moving at right angles, created the disturbing shape when viewed closely. This mirrored the Nazi symbol that has gained attention in the latest episode of the Peacemaker show. Epic Games confirmed the removal on social media.
We’re disabling the Peaceful Hips Emote in Fortnite as we inquire into our partner’s creative intentions in this collab emote. Assuming it’s not coming back, we’ll issue refunds in the next few days. Sorry folks.

It is rare for Fortnite to remove content or offer refunds, so it is doubtful the emote will come back in this form. Some might say this is just a sign of today’s overly sensitive culture, but it is easy to see why the emote’s movements resembled a swastika—especially since that symbol plays a prominent role in Peacemaker’s recent storyline.
In the show, Christopher Smith ends up in an alternate reality. This reality turns out to be a white supremacist nightmare, where the U.S. flag has its stars swapped for a swastika and Black people are hunted relentlessly by violent white mobs.
While this disturbing imagery fits the story James Gunn is telling in the mature-rated DC Universe series, it clearly clashes with Fortnite’s younger audience and family-friendly reputation. More surprising is that the show’s earlier graphic scenes this season, including male nudity during a gay orgy, did not spark a comparable uproar.

Take a look for yourself. Any of these other emote dance moves trigger your “anti-Nazi” reflex?
No matter what the creators intended with the emote, it looks like Fortnite won’t bring it back in the same form after the backlash over its Nazi-like movements. This incident raises questions about why such offensive content is being intertwined with a major DC projects in the first place, and why warnings about these controversial elements seem to be ignored until public outcry forces these companies into action.
