Image via DisneyLilo & Stitch fans have an exciting new story to look forward to this May. Dynamite Entertainment has announced a new three-part series sure to hold over fans waiting for the sequel to the live-action blockbuster.
Screen Rant shared a preview of artwork from Lilo & Stitch: 626 #1, which Dynamite is releasing on May 20, 2026. In the pages, fans can see the mysterious Cobra Bubbles as well as Captain Gantu — two fan-favorite characters from the original animated film. The series is written by Daniel Kibblesmith and George Kambadais, with Dynamite promising it will feature the “extended family and friends of Lilo & Stitch.” The first issue explores Cobra Bubbles’ secret origins (or rather, Lilo’s interpretation of the story). A second tale also included in the first issue looks at Captain Gantu’s time on an Old West-style planet.
Lilo & Stitch Explore Stitch's Origins in New Sequel Story
After Lilo & Stitch 626 #1 arrives in May, the second issue of the series will arrive in June — just in time for the annual Stitch Day on June 26, named aptly for the lovable character’s original name: Experiment 626. Dynamite’s official solicit for the second issue teases that fans will get to see Lilo trying to teach Stitch how to swim, even if there is a ‘giant squid monster hungry for aliens.’
In the second issue’s side story, titled ‘Route 626’, readers will get to head back to a time when the evil scientist Jumba was first testing out his destructive creation — Experiment 626. Naturally, the test doesn’t go according to plan, and when 626 escapes, he heads to a highly populated planet where chaos quickly ensues.
Details regarding the third issue in the Lilo & Stitch: 626 limited series from Dynamite have not been shared at this time. The new stories are a part of a much larger comics world featuring Lilo & Stitch characters from Dynamite; the publisher already has several single issues, trade paperbacks, and even hardcover editions filled with hilarious and heartwarming adventures for Disney fans.
A New Live-Action Lilo & Stitch Sequel is Also on the Way
Image via Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / Courtesy Everett CollectionWhile Dynamite’s new comic series is arriving later this year, it will still be some time before Stitch fans get to watch their favorite blue alien on the big screen again. Last year on Stitch Day, it was officially announced that Lilo & Stitch 2 was currently in development, with Chris Sanders, the original voice of Stitch, confirmed to return as a screenwriter. It currently has a tentative release date of May 26, 2028.
By the time Stitch Day rolled around in 2025, it wasn’t a very big surprise that Disney would be making another live-action installment after the first film proved to be such a massive blockbuster. Released to high praise from critics and audiences, Lilo & Stitch grossed over $1 billion worldwide, making it the fourth-highest-grossing film of 2025 and the first live-action/animated hybrid film to surpass the $1 billion mark. It remains to be seen if any further news regarding the sequel might emerge during this year’s Stitch Day celebrations in June.
