Patrik Walker is an Emmy Award–winning writer who covers all things Comics & Superheroes. His work can also be found at the Dallas Cowboys, The Sporting News, and CBS Sports, among other outlets. One of the most respected names in his field, he is also a diehard enthusiast of all things comics, anime, gaming and movies — thriving in spaces where discussions involving those or similar topics reign supreme.

X-Men fans are about to have the time of their lives in 2026 and beyond. Everything is finally coming together for Marvel's top superhero faction of all-time not named The Avengers, and that includes a round of all-new storylines in the comic book space as well.

There's plenty happening this summer with Season 2 of X-Men '97 expected to arrive and, in winter, the return of the original live-action X-Men remains a top headline for Avengers: Doomsday, and Marvel Comics is making sure the season in-between isn't without some fire from Professor Charles Xavier's bunch.

In September 2026, Marvel Comics will present the brand-new X-Men event, DNX, a storyline that promises a lot of unfathomable changes across mutantdom with its "Everything Is Contagious" tagline — by Jed MacKay (writer) and Federico Vincentini.

All-New X-Men Story Promising 'Major Changes'

Tom Brevoort, Marvel editor, states DNX will "bridge the gap after Age of Revelation" and promises" major X-Men shifts", per BleedingCoolNews.

"We're releasing an Armageddon/X-Men one-shot that will have both an Armageddon story and an X-Men story that sets up a particular thing… there will be another X-Men event coming up," he explained. "You might even see something about it on Comics Giveaway Day… But we're going to have a little more space, again, due to the way some things fell. We got a little choked on event stuff early on, and a certain number of X-Fans have not been shy about saying that. The, 'You keep putting your events in the middle of my books,' crowd has been louder than usual because it's happened a little more often than we might've otherwise intended.

He continued: "So we'll probably go a somewhat longer period of time between the end of the Age of Revelation and the next thing. It probably won't seem like that long to people because there are 12 months in a year, but it's not going to happen in March. But it is coming. We know what it is. It's got a name and everything. We haven't told anybody the name. That Armageddon one-shot is actually not really called Armageddon/X-Men. It's called Armageddon/something else — we just haven't released what that something else is yet."

2026 Is The Year of the X-Men

With that, this stands to be one of the best calendar years in the history of the X-Men, all told.

The live-action version received wonderful news regarding their future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the past several days, and there are even credible reports as to well-known frontrunners who are being eyed to potentially sign on as two of the most critical characters in the X-Men universe. And then there's the animated series on Disney+, X-Men '97, and the news that series received recently.

Not one, but two new X- factions are confirmed to be on the way to Season 2 of X-Men '97 this summer, and we've got a great idea of which two Marvel has up their sleeves, thanks to some well-placed Easter Eggs sprinkled throughout Season 1. Now mix in the DNX storyline arriving in September and their impact on the events in Avengers: Doomsday this December, and it's all X-Men fans can do to contain their excitement as it runneth over their proverbial cups.
