Growing up in rural Iowa as a reluctant reader, it all changed when he started reading the original Fantastic Four by Lee/Kirby. Now Austin can't stop reading. He has written about comics for Comic Book Yeti and he has also written tons of indie comics, best known for Big Guns Stupid Rednecks.

Spider-Man is no stranger to costume changes. He has had many memorable redesigns over the years, such as his iconic black suit or the Iron Spider costume.

The spectacular Spider-Man transforms into a monster in this new redesign. Marvel released a teaser for the upcoming Hulk War from the creative team of Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Nic Klein, giving fans their first look at this monstrous new take. Spider-Man's horrific appearance was fully featured in Amazing Spider-Man 1000/Queen in Black CGD 2026 #1. In Hulk War, the Infernale Hulk (a demon who has stolen Hulk's power) sets out to turn the world into monsters. The Infernale Hulk has already transformed Peter Parker into pure nightmare fuel, turning him into a massive spider with his human body hanging from the creature’s belly. He is only able to watch as this creature causes damage and destruction.

Though Spider-Man has transformed into an arachnid-like mutant before, he has never looked as horrifying as he does in this new appearance. Since Hulk War is shaping up to be such a massive storyline, fans can expect even more heroes and villains to receive horrific new incarnations. As scary as this change is, it opens up many other possibilities. Marvel may finally be diving fully into the creepy, demonic world of full-fledged horror.

Spider-Man isn't the only hero to receive a monstrous transformation so far. Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman, has been turned into a giant transparent dragon. Tony Stark has been transformed into a giant, muscle-bound berserker. With Hulk War scheduled for 2027, Marvel still has plenty of time to transform more of its favorite characters into these bizarre-yet-brilliant monsters

Johnson has risen in popularity in recent years thanks to his notable runs on Superman, Alien, and Hulk. He is no stranger to shaking up the status quo in his comics. He took Superman into cosmic territory during the Warworld saga. After a long stint writing for DC Comics, Johnson is now signed exclusively to Marvel Comics. Klein brings his gritty, dark artwork to Hulk War. Klein is no stranger to major events, having illustrated Thor for writer Donny Cates and several King in Black tie-ins. The duo relaunched Hulk in 2023 and have managed to keep the series fresh and relevant in an industry where many titles are canceled after only six issues.

Promoting the storyline eight months before release shows just how much faith Marvel has in Johnson, Klein, and Hulk War. This could end up being the definitive Hulk run of the decade. Fans, get your preorders in now. Hulk War is going to give us loads of incredible new designs, and eight months is plenty of time to get caught up if you have yet to check out the series. This is definitely a series fans will not want to miss.
