New Avengers #55-58 (2009)

In the last story, Brother Voodoo became Sorcerer Supreme. These issues pick up where issue #50 left off, with the New Avengers fighting Hood’s gang and narrowly escaping. In the aftermath, members of the gang bristle under what they think is ineffective leadership by The Hood–and it seems they don’t even know that Hood is allied with Norman Osborn.

Jonas Harrow gets a hold of some power-dampening tech. He arms Chemistro with, and the two, along with the Wrecking Crew, leave Hood’s gang to try to sell it to Osborn.

They instigate a rematch against the New Avengers where he uses it against them, causing Clint to puke and Luke to have a heart attack. The New Avengers spend a lot of time getting their asses kicked in these issues.

There are some good fights.

But since Cage needs heart surgery and has unbreakable skin, his teammates eventually agree that if Harrow will use his power dampener so that surgeons can operate on Luke, the New Avengers will let Osborn have him.

Luke’s wife isn’t thrilled by that, but Osborn is…

While all that is going on, Hood is with Loki trying to get some powers, after Brother Voodoo took them away from him. Loki tells him to seek out the Norn Stones to get powers.

Also, as a result of his being briefly depowered, it appears that Sentry’s dark side known as the The Void is now back.
