A new group of mutants known as The Outliers is set to receive the Marvel Comics spotlight with individual variant covers for Uncanny X-Men, illustrated by Luciano Vecchio (Resurrection of Magneto), hitting shelves in February 2025. The covers highlight each member of the group — Calico, Deathdream, Jitter, and Ransom — new characters introduced in the first arc of Uncanny X-Men by writer Gail Simone (Batgirl) and artist David Marquez (Civil War II).
The variant covers will be released across Uncanny X-Men issues #10-13. They’ll commemorate both Vecchio’s already-successful Uncanny X-Men cover art and the popular new character additions to the Marvel mythos. The New Orleans-based Outlier’s comic book debut is just one drastic shift in the evolving X-Men canon post-Krakoa, which comes just ahead of their proper debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and MCU and X-Men fans alike can’t help but draw connections.

Every X-Men Comic Currently Running
From Marvel's main X-Men comics to Fall of X tie-ins, and limited series, every month offers dozens of adventures for new and dedicated fans to enjoy.
From sidelining Fantastic Four titles while Fox retained the film rights to its characters to incorporating the sardonic tone of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy into the comics, the publisher isn't hesitant to create dialogue between the mediums.
Now that X-Men mainstays like Beast, Charles Xavier, and Wolverine are gracing the silver screen as the MCU’s inaugural mutants in The Marvels, Doctor Strange and The Multiverse Of Madness, and Deadpool & Wolverine respectively, comic book readers are earmarking the Outliers’ comic introduction as potential foreshadowing for the mutant squad’s cinematic future. It’s easy to see why—speculatively, complementing familiar faces with fresh ones like Calico and company would certainly help differentiate MCU mutant stories from its Fox-era predecessors.
