NYCC ’25: BAT-FAM trailer and release details revealed

1 day ago 7

After revealing key art earlier this week, today at New York Comic Con, Prime Video unveiled the official Bat-Fam trailer and premiere date for the all-new animated series from DC and Warner Bros. Animation.

The half-hour action-comedy is a follow-up to the hit holiday film, Merry Little Batman, and will be available to watch November 10 on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The series will also stream on Amazon Kids+, Amazon’s digital subscription for kids.

At the series’ New York Comic Con panel, executive producer and showrunner Mike Roth was joined by cast members Bobby Moynihan (Man-Bat), London Hughes (Alicia Pennyworth), and Yonas Kibreab (Little Batman/Damian Thomas Wayne), to share the exciting news and screen the first episode.

The action-packed trailer gave a sneak-peek into the ordinary lives of the extraordinary Superheroes and all the mayhem they must conquer as a family. With laughter, heroics, and just a dash of drama, Bat-Fam proves that in this family, saving Gotham City is serious business — but family comes first.

Moderated by Damian Holbrook, some panel highlights:

Creating a series out of the Merry Little Batman Christmas movie wasn’t originally planned. However, after the film came out, there was positive reaction that they wanted to continue with this world.

It won’t come as surprise Bobby Moynihan has been a tremendous Batman since he was a child. His favorite Batman actors are Adam West and Michael Batman. In fact, on SNL he and Taran Kilam wrote a sketch for host Michael Keaton where they ask him to play Batman. It went so well that it became the opening monologue. He joked that they basicaly accosted Keaton for a week straight.

London Hughes loved the Adam West Batman as a kid would watch reruns on Saturday mornings in the United Kingdom. So when the Christopher Nolan films came out she desired to return to the original. Kibreab was six years ago when his mom showed him the ’89 Batman movie because his mom is a Prince fan.

Mike Roth and the creators pulled from their own lives from the show. Roth cited having a beard and wearing “dad sneakers” himself as potential inspiration for the look of Bruce Wayne in the show.

The show explores new areas and aspects that haven’t been explored in the world of Batman. Hughes appreciated playing an original Black British character on the animated series. The panel confirmed that Alicia Pennyworth is a nod to actress Alicia Silverstone who played

Apparently Roth’s son and Kibreab are the same age.

Kibreab had a most unusual path to voice acting. While playing tennis when he was eight years old, he made videos on social media like Vine which led to him being invited to interview professional tennis players. From there his career kicked off.

All the actors recorded individually which was a new experience for Hughes.

Moynihan auditioned to voice The Joker in Merry Little Batman. Though he didn’t get the part, he loved the opportunity to audition so much that he cried. So getting to voice Man-Bat has become one of his all-time favorite characters to play. The character is described as the “weird uncle in the house.”

Despite never having done animation voiceover before, Hughes already knew she was perfect for the role. As a comedian, she relished the opportunity to improvise during the recording process some of which made it into the show.

Casting the voice of Batman himself was an exhaustive search according to Roth. It required someone stoic but also merry which they found in Luke Wilson.

Having a sister who’s 12 years older than him, Yibreab related to the sibling dynamic of Damian and Claire, the newest young ward in the Wayne household.

Episodes will focus on typical, normal family activities that take a turn into the fantastical. “Expect the unexpected,” said Hughes.

Like many, Roth believes Batman has the best villains. Fans can expect some major baddies like Solomon Grundy, Killer Croc, and Mad Hatter. Likewise, some lower tier villains like King Tut will feature.

Fan Q&A

Physical comedy actors like Jim Carrey and Eddie Murphy were big inspirations for Hughes for her approach to voice acting.

After voicing Panda in We Bare Bears, a fan asked Moynihan working with creator Daniel Chong again in the upcoming Pixar film Hoppers. We Bare Bears was one of his favorite projects so Moynihan is incredibly excited to work with Chong again.

Roth feels like the actors enhance the writing, particularly the comedy.

Moynihan is hoping for Bat-Fam action figures.

BATFAM follows Batman, Alfred, and young Damian Wayne – now having taken on the mantle of “Little Batman” – as they welcome a few new residents to Wayne Manor. Joining the family dinner table is Alicia Pennyworth, Alfred’s free-spirited grandniece; Claire, a recently reformed Super-Villain; Ra’s al Ghul, Damian’s adoring “Pap Pap” who also happens to be Batman’s longtime nemesis; and Man-Bat, who takes up residence in the Wayne Manor belfry. Oh! And let’s not forget Selina, the beloved family cat. This close-knit family of misfits navigate the fun and frustrations of ordinary life while protecting the streets of Gotham City.

The series stars Luke Wilson (voice of Batman/Bruce Wayne), Yonas Kibreab (voice of Damian Wayne), James Cromwell (voice of Alfred Pennyworth), Haley Tju (voice of Claire), London Hughes (voice of Alicia Pennyworth), Michael Benyaer (voice of Ra’s Al Ghul), and Bobby Moynihan (voice of Man-Bat). The guest voice cast includes Reid Scott, Kevin Michael Richardson, Diedrich Bader, and Natasha Leggero, among others. The series was developed by executive producer and showrunner Mike Roth & executive producer Jase Ricci. Sam Register also serves as executive producer.
