The fourth Saga hardcover collection that drops in April will include extra material from artists like Niko Henrichon and Zoe Thorogood, writer Brian K. Vaughan announced Saturday at New York Comic Con.
As other artists have done for past Saga hardcovers, Henrichon and Thorogood will be drawing their takes on the book’s familiar characters. This is extra special, since Saga doesn’t do variant covers, Vaughan noted.
The announcement came during Vaughan and Henrichon’s panel about their new book, Spectators (read our review). Specifically, Vaughan shared that next year will see the release of a fourth Saga hardcover, which will collect three smaller six-issue trades, vols. 10 – 12, which is essentially all of the issues since the series mid-point hiatus.
In addition, artist Fiona Staples is hard at work on new Saga comics that should publish next year, Vaughan said.
“This next arc is pretty wild,” Vaughan said.
To which a single audience member shouted, “Oh no!”
Presumably, this person has been traumatized by the many (many) beloved characters who have perished in the pages of Saga.
After a pause, Vaughan continued, “It’ll be the most life-changing adventure yet for Hazel.”
And at that point the entire room groaned. But it was all in good fun, the communal bracing for the worst with a room filled with strangers who like the same sad stories you do.
Vaughan also reiterated that the planned endpoint for Saga is #108.
“We’re dedicated to seeing this story through to the end, and it’s coming,” he said.
On top of the Saga news, Vaughan and Henrichon also revealed that their previous collaboration, Pride of Baghdad, will be getting a new 20th anniversary edition hardcover from Image Comics, with a new Henrichon cover and other extras.
“We’re so proud of that book,” Vaughan said, “and so sad it remains relevant today.”
And, of course, the bulk of the panel was spent with the two sharing insights into Spectators, which again, you can read our review of here (it’s almost as if I personally wrote it…).
