An X-Men fan-favorite is rediscovering just why she is such a terrifying figure on the battlefield, and it might be too much for her to handle alone.
Liefeld said of the sale, "I'm still buzzing with excitement. I never imagined that this page, my debut as writer and artist on New Mutants #98, would command such an impressive price." Liefeld continued, "Making comic books has been my entire life. I started drawing professionally as a teenager, and it's a thrill that my biggest and most profound successes continue to come from the characters I created and the stories I brought to life with pen and paper. Deadpool continues to leave his mark on pop culture writ large, and I'm excited for both seller and buyer. I hope it brings great joy to both of them. Thank you to Heritage for their excellent auctions and promotions. They continue to provide the best experience for collectors of all ages."
Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, was created by Liefeld and Nicieza as a new Marvel Comics assassin with his sights set on Nathaniel Summers, better known as the time-displaced mutant antihero, Cable. While the character's beginnings are far from those of the fourth-wall breaking Deadpool of today, it wasn't long before he found his footing as the Merc With a Mouth. Since his debut, Deadpool has become a fast fan-favorite, not to mention a pop-culture powerhouse unto himself.
