Previously Unseen 'Metro Club' Scene from "Superman IV" Restored and Released

Posted on March 01, 2026 by Neil Cole

A newly restored deleted sequence from "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace" is offering fans an unprecedented look at a long-lost chapter from the Christopher Reeve era of Superman cinema. Titled "Metro Club After Hours," the sequence was filmed during the movie's original production but cut prior to its theatrical release and has now been reconstructed and presented by Aaron Price through A Price Production.

The sequence unfolds inside a bustling Metropolis nightclub, where Clark Kent (Reeve) accompanies Lacy Warfield (Mariel Hemingway) on an evening out. The scene builds to the first public emergence of the film's original iteration of Nuclear Man (Clive Mantle) - a pivotal character moment that was ultimately absent from the released version of the film. For decades, fans questioned whether the footage had survived at all. Its recovery was made possible through the efforts of Philip Hawkins, with tape elements supplied by Paul Fishman, allowing the material to be assembled and preserved.

Produced and re-edited by Price in collaboration with Martin Lakin, the restored presentation incorporates newly integrated music tracks by Paul Fishman designed to reflect how the sequence may have appeared in a completed cut, replacing the temporary scoring used during production. Working from VHS-quality source footage, the team carefully refined dialogue audio and stabilized visuals to present the material in the strongest form possible while respecting its archival origins.

In addition to restoration work, the release includes select newly created visual enhancements intended to approximate unfinished post-production elements. Among them are subtle electrical effects surrounding Nuclear Man to emphasize his volatile nature, an updated depiction of Clark using superspeed within the club, and a newly composited shirt-rip reveal that transitions into a 3D-rendered shot of Superman racing toward the exit. An unedited version of the Metro Club footage is also available here through longtime Superman historian Jim Bowers, providing audiences with both a preservation of the raw material and a thoughtfully realized reconstruction. For admirers of Christopher Reeve's enduring portrayal of the Man of Steel, the release represents a noteworthy addition to the ongoing effort to document and preserve the cinematic legacy of the Reeve-era films.
