Scott Snyder explains his plan to keep Absolute Batman spoilers under wraps even despite industry solicits.

In a series of posts on X, Absolute Batman writer Scott Snyder broke down the plan that he and artist Nick Dragotta have come up with to prevent future issues of the hit series from being spoiled, particularly by upcoming comic book solicits. "Solicits tend to ruin things coming up [because] the covers show things two or three months down the line," Snyder wrote.

"For example, if solicits coming out when 11 is in stores show Catwoman on the cover of 14, you know she's coming which spoils stuff... When it's too big a spoiler DC has let us redact things on covers. We did that with 10, and now with 17," Snyder continued. "And this has actually worked really well for fans, because it enhances the fun... So what we're thinking of is doing that as a regular thing for the issues coming up because there are some really big revelations - new characters, twists etc."

Snyder went on to explain the way that such a system would be implemented, noting, "We have a big twist at the end of AB 19 (April). That twist is on the cover of AB 20 (May, but solicits show the cover in Feb). So we redact the spoiler for 20 in solicits but a few days after 19 comes out, and people have read it, we un-redact 20 cover on SM... The goal really is just to make the book the most fun for you guys... We want the experience of reading it and talking about it with your friends to be the best possible bc we’re having the time of our lives on this thing."

What Is Absolute Batman?

Absolute Batman kicked off back in October 2024 and introduced readers to the most brutal version of the Dark Knight yet. Set against the backdrop of the Absolute Universe, which has been twisted and remade by the ascended Darkseid, Absolute Batman has consistently shocked fans with its reimagined versions of iconic DC Comics heroes and villains.

In December 2025, it was announced that Absolute Batman had reached yet another massive milestone as the series' first issue went back to the presses for a whopping tenth printing. The tenth print edition of Absolute Batman #1, which is available in both foil and cardstock variants, features a new cover re-presenting Dragotta and colorist Frank Martin's original main cover, as well as a recolored Absolute Batman logo.

While Absolute Batman continues to crush sales expectations, that doesn't mean the series is bound for an indefinite run. Snyder previously explained that he and artist Nick Dragotta have planned the series out to between 35 and 40 issues, with Snyder noting, "I hope it reminds people that these characters are meant to be renewed. They're meant to be burned down and put together. Batman weaponizes his trauma to make the world better, that's how he wins."

Absolute Batman is available to read wherever comics are sold.
