Fans are about to meet a new character in the Black Panther corner of the Marvel Universe. The latest trailer for Avengers: Doomsday featured a meeting between the Wakandans and The Fantastic Four. As the Doomsday Clock continues to tick toward the next Avengers flick, a preview of an upcoming comic introduces a mysterious hero with connections to Black Panther.

Marvel released a preview of Dungeons of Doom #1, an anthology series that spins out of One World Under Doom. The preview is split into four chapters, with the fourth focused on "The Wakandan" named Umbra. He's flying a Wakandan ship headed for Latveria, and though his identity is a secret, Umbra is one of Dungeons of Doom's main players.

  • In the aftermath of ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM, with Doom’s castle empty and masterless, the superpowers of the world race to claim and control the untold power and technology that await inside. But when an explosion sends them all plummeting into a dungeon labyrinth that none of them knew was there, what began as an arms race becomes a terrifying game of survival. Who, if any, will survive? And what horrors lie within the DUNGEONS OF DOOM?

Dungeons of Doom #1 takes place after Doctor Doom's death in One World Under Doom. With Doom out of the picture, the world's superpowers are all flocking to Latveria to claim its secrets. The preview begins with armies of soldiers fighting at the base of Castle Doom before transitioning to Red Hulk.

Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross was held as a war criminal by Doctor Doom, so if anyone has a bone to pick with the villain, it's him. Red Hulk's chapter teases the discovery of an underground labyrinth. Subsequent chapters feature Latverian freedom fighters and more trapped underground.

Last but not least is Umbra, who represents Wakanda. "Since the Fall of Doom, Latveria has descended into chaos, a war zone of competing forces," the preview reads. "Wakanda wants a piece of the land, resources, wealth, power." Umbra dons full-body armor and a helmet as he prepares to descend from his ship towards Latveria.

Whether Umbra is a friend or foe remains to be seen. Future solicitations for Dungeons of Doom have him playing a vital role, including obtaining something called "The Skull-Shaped Herb." The cover of Issue #2 features Umbra being pursued by Red Hulk, with Issue #3 teasing a confrontation with an "Asgardian-cursed Hydra agent."

Dungeons of Doom #1 goes on sale Wednesday, Jan. 14.
