This one-shot is a collection of black-and-white stories in the tradition of Shang Chi’s pulpy 1970s Master of Kung Fu Magazine. It’s fun.
Story #1 is by Jonathan Hickman and Kody Chamberlain and tells the story of a charity event for the “Damnation Army” (standing in for Salvation Army). The event is their “Annual Race to Benefit Various and Sundry Evil Organizations and Also the Homeless. Now With Beer and Hot Dogs.” Competitors include Hitler cosplayers, Black Santas, Mexican wrestlers, and the “needy women of Reno.”
Deadpool and Shang Chi (in what is their first team up?) crash the event and beat everyone up, including a demon who lives in the belly of a pregnant waitress.

Then the story ends with a board game.

The next story is told in Chinese with English subtitles, which is a fun gimmick, displayed with photo-style art. Then there’s an old-fashioned, ’70s traditional style kung fu story.

It reads like something from the great days of Doug Moench writing Shang Chi. It even includes Midnight, from old Shang comics.

And finally there’s a prose story–also like what used to be in the black-and-white magazines. I didn’t read it (I personally don’t like text-stories in my comics), but I do appreciate it.
In all: A home run comic here.
