Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.
Even some of his closest allies cannot deny that The Incredible Hulk is pretty intimidating. Soon, the rest of the Marvel Comics universe will have every right to fear Bruce Banner's alter ego.
The march toward next year's Hulk War event is in progress. Marvel is kicking off the countdown by releasing a series of exciting one-shots that show the Infernal Hulk in action.
Infernal Hulk Takes On Marvel's Finest

Leading to the epic, highly anticipated crossover, Hulk will face off against some of his own closest allies in one-shots written by Johnson. Things start in September with Infernal Hulk vs. Wolverine #1, which is illustrated by Marvel’s Stormbreaker Jonas Scharf and also serves as a bit of a throwback to the X-Men character's debut as a villain of Bruce Banner.
The plot of the one-shot has already been revealed and involves the X-Men discovering the location of a group of mutants who have been abducted by the Infernal Hulk. The adamantium-clawed hero, otherwise known as Logan, takes it upon himself to make sure that these innocent people are freed and is willing to unleash his most feral instincts in retaliation against his one-time enemy.
The following month, it appears that Hulk will trade fists with one of the few heroes who match his strength and stamina, his on-and-off rival, The Thing, in Infernal Hulk vs. Fantastic Four #1. In November, the big green guy will dodge webs when Infernal Hulk vs. Spider-Man #1 swings into comic book stores, and topping the one-shot series off at the end of 2026 is a divide within the family as depicted in Infernal Hulk vs. Avengers #1.
The Infernal Hulk Creators Promise A Horrifying Take On The Character
Image via Marvel ComicsJust with one look at the Infernal Hulk, it is undeniable that Bruce Banner's angrier self has never been quite as scary as he is in this form. However, it appears that there are more scares in store based on what the creators behind the character have had to say.
Phillip Kennedy Johnson says that he was excited to bring out more of an overt horror villain persona with Infernal Hulk that will come through in these upcoming one-shots.
"The most fun aspect of this series were rereading old Marvel battles, reminding myself what’s been done and how hard we’ve been willing to go in the past. Be advised: there were discussions about how violent we could go with these one-shots. I want to keep ramping up the horror vibe of the Hulk series, and for our readers to see things in these one-shots they’ve never seen before. On both counts, I promise we’ll deliver."
Johnson also expects that people will be shocked by the events of Infernal Hulk vs. Wolverine #1, especially at its conclusion. Editor Mark Paniccia adds that it is, "an absolute knockout of a fight comic with unrelenting action, real emotional stakes, and Phillip firing off twist after twist without ever letting the reader catch their breath. And Jonas' art makes you literally feel each punch, kick, cut, slash, and stab. Just a savage issue!"
The Hulk War event is the crossover that Johnson and Klein have been laying the groundwork for since they debuted Incredible Hulk #1 in 2023. It will serve as the culmination of the global destruction that Infernal Hulk has caused since becoming possessed by the Eldest.
Infernal Hulk vs. Wolverine #1 hits the shelves on Sept. 9.
