Ryan Smith is located just south of Boston and is a lifelong fan of movies, comics, music and all things pop culture... and pro wrestling, but don't hold that against him.

Spider-Man is more popular now than ever, and while a lot of that has to do with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's handling of Peter Parker, there's another Spider-Man who's been holding it down in comics and animation just the same. Miles Morales is one of the most well-developed characters in all of Marvel Comics, and with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse hitting theaters next year, viewers will get to see a whole new side of him.

However, Miles has yet to make his big-screen appearance in the MCU, and many people are anticipating the character to break out into live action for the first time. With Tom Holland's recent statements suggesting that he wants to help mentor the next live-action Spider-Man, the character may need a replacement sooner than later. Holland shouted out Owen Cooper as a great pick for Peter Parker, but the character many fans want to see most is Miles, and one fan in particular has offered her insight regarding how it could work.

Miles Morales Could Revitalize the Marvel Cinematic Universe With His Relatability

I was lucky enough to ask a few questions to acclaimed director and author Ytasha L. Womack on behalf of CBR regarding Miles' possible debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She provided a great perspective on the character and the most important reasons he'd make a perfect addition to the MCU as it moves into its future phase with so much uncertainty. By focusing on the core character of Miles Morales, a Spider-Man film with the character could bring out the very best in the MCU.

"Miles would be an instant star in the MCU. He’s arguably the most relatable. We may not have been a prince like T’Challa or a god like Thor, but we have had to, at some point, get through a crazy school day or felt invisible before loved ones. Miles being bitten by a spider feels like the kind of thing that could happen to any of us. He wasn’t exactly looking for these powers. Miles Morales' fanbase is deep, and we want to see a live-action Miles in his full essence."

Having written Spider-Man: Miles Morales for the Marvel Age of Comics series — an incredibly genuine analysis of the Miles Morales character — there are very few people more qualified to offer insight on Miles' future than Ytasha L. Womack. It's true that the character is considered one of the most relatable characters in comics, with his down-to-Earth approach to the litany of otherworldly issues Spider-Man needs to deal with on a daily basis. He'd fit in perfectly among the ever-expanding universe the Marvel films have developed over the past eighteen years, while adding a sense of empathy some other characters simply don't possess.

Miles Morales Provides Brand-New Stories No Spider-Man Movie Has Ever Tackled

When asked which other characters she'd like to see Miles Morales contend with in the MCU, Womack offered one expected answer and one unexpected answer, but both ideas would undoubtedly be a fun time for a Spider-Man film. "Uncle Aaron. Although he’s not a villain, I would love to see Miles tested by the African spider-god Anansi." Anansi is a fascinating idea that would certainly breathe fresh life into any Spider-Man film following the usual villain appearances that have haunted Peter Parker for so long. A test from the Spider-God Anansi would surely offer a spiritual journey for Miles Morales unlike that of any Spider-Man adventure committed to the silver screen.

On the topic of Miles' uncle Aaron, I had to get Ytasha's personal take on Donald Glover's role in the Miles Morales mythology and how he played into the character's creation. "I remember the Donald Glover as Spider-Man craze at the time. It was only while I was researching the book that I realized Glover’s character wore the Spider-Man pajamas in a Community episode. I love these cross-world narratives coming to life." Other than his brief appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming and an even quicker cameo in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse, Glover has yet to reappear as Uncle Aaron for any Spider-Man project. While Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse adapted Uncle Aaron's story beautifully, it would still be well worth watching to see Donald Glover bring his unique acting ability to the character for a live-action outing in the MCU.

Ytasha L. Womack's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is available from Bloomsbury Publishing, and it cannot be overstated how great it is to read one wildly knowledgeable fan of Miles Morales break down one of the greatest characters in modern comics.

Since his first appearance in 1962, Spider-Man has almost always been Marvel Comics' most popular character. Known for his sense of humor and bad luck as well as his selflessness and super-strength, Spider-Man has helmed countless titles over the years, Spider-Man's most prominent comics include The Amazing Spider-Man, Web of Spider-Man, and Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man.

Peter Parker was the original Spider-Man but the Spider-Verse has become an important part of the character's lore in recent years. Multiversal and future Spider-Men include Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Miguel O'Hara and Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham. This provided the premise for the popular Spider-Verse film trilogy, which makes Miles its primary hero.

Spider-Man is also the basis of several live-action film franchises and numerous animated television series. He is one of the most recognizable characters in the world. While he's changed a lot over the decades, Steve Ditko and Stan Lee gave the world an unforgettable hero when they created Spider-Man.
